Rams put on Offensive Clinic Thursday Afternoon in Talladega

Mobile Dominates Talladega College in Thursday Matchup

TALLADEGA, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Soccer team grabbed their second win of the season on Thursday, Oct. 21 in a conference road match against Talladega College, a match where the Rams dominated, 9-0. Thursday afternoon's meeting with the Tornadoes of Talladega College is the first meeting in history between the two teams as Mobile controlled the first meeting from start to finish. The Rams' nine goals on Thursday are not the most goals scored in a match in their history. Mobile managed to score 18 goals in a match during the 1998 season.

Madison Hager kicked off the scoring early for the Rams on Thursday, recording her first goal of the year in the fifth minute. Elaina Davies was credited with the assist on Hager's goal. In both the 22nd and 23rd minutes of the match, midfielder Anakah Madril notched her third and fourth goals of the season for the Rams to put Mobile up 3-0 in just under 25 minutes in. Madril has now scored three goals in her last two matches played and now leads the team with four goals on the campaign.

Following Madril's two goals, Mobile managed two more goals before halftime, one in the 30th minute from Cecilie Esbak Pedersen and the other in the 37th minute from defender Elaina Davies. For Pedersen, that was her second goal of the year. Meanwhile, Davies' goal was the first of her collegiate career.

Coming out of halftime with the lead 5-0 in favor of the Rams, Mobile's offense continued to roll following a goal from Maria Eduards Rocha Bento in the 53rd minute. Entering Thursday's match, Bento led Mobile in shots taken with 31. However, her goal in the 53rd minute of Thursday's match was her first goal of the season in her first year with Mobile.

In the 59th minute, striker Elke Fernandez punched in her third goal of the year, placing her tied for second on the team in goals scored this season with Mia Mugford. With the match under control and sitting at 7-0, the Rams were not done there.

In the 62nd minute, Kayla Wynn notched her first goal of her collegiate career. Just two minutes later, Alexia Barnett followed Wynn's first-career goal with a her first collegiate goal as well. With both Wynn's and Barnett's goal in the second half, as well as Bento's second half goal and Davies' goal in the first half, Mobile saw a total of four players record their first collegiate goals in the 9-0 rout over Talladega College.

As a team, the Rams took 24 total shots in the 90 minutes played with 16 of those shots being shots-on-goal and nine going in for a score. However, offense was not the only thing on display for Mobile in Thursday's win. Mobile's defensive back line did not allow Talladega College one shot in the match, giving starting Mobile goalkeeper Payton Lewis and backup keeper Leia Carter a quiet afternoon.

Mobile's overall season record improves to 2-10-2 on the year following the win. The Rams will return home on Saturday, Oct. 23 for another conference match at 1:30 p.m. CT. Mobile will host Blue Mountain College on Saturday, another match where the Rams are favored. Prior to the start of the match, Mobile will honor the graduating seniors on the roster for senior day festivities at 1:00 p.m. CT.
