PINEVILLE, La. - The University of Mobile Men's Basketball team traveled to Pineville, La. on Saturday, Oct. 30 for an afternoon game against Louisiana College. In search for their first win of the 2021-22 season, the Rams stuck with the Wildcats for the entire game and eventually hit a buzzer-beating three to defeat Louisiana College, 75-73. With the win, Mobile's record moves to 1-2 on the young season.
Mobile newcomer Joshua Williams was responsible for the go-ahead shot with exactly one second remaining, shooting deep from behind the arch and using the backboard to his advantage for the made three-pointer. Williams finished with a team-high 18 points in the win while also leading the team with five rebounds, all from off the bench. It was a special game for Williams as he managed to hit the game-winning shot for the Rams in front of his family who were in attendance behind the Mobile bench.
Logan Foutz also played a very important role late in the game for the Rams, hitting two three-point shots with under three minutes remaining to keep Mobile close to Louisiana College. Foutz finished with 16 points and four rebounds. He shot 4-6 from three in 36 minutes of playing time.
In his second year on the Mobile roster, Gary Jefferson finally made his Mobile debut on Saturday. Jefferson suffered a season ending injury prior to the season beginning last year. With Jefferson healthy, he returned to the court against Louisiana College and finished with 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Mobile Head Coach Darnell Archey gave Jefferson the start on Saturday as Jefferson played 24 minutes.
As a team, Mobile shot 52% from the floor and 53% from the three-point line. The Rams were 66% from the free-throw line in Saturday's win. Mobile spoiled Louisiana College homecoming weekend and handed the Wildcats their first loss of the season on Saturday. Mobile forced their opponents to shoot just 41% from the floor and 34% from beyond the arch for three.
Mobile will celebrate the first win of the season on the long bus ride home Saturday night and will return to work on Monday, Nov. 1 for a non-conference game against Southeastern Baptist College. The Rams are heavily favored in Monday night's game as tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT in Pharr Gymnasium.Â
