Mobile's Season Comes to an End on Wednesday with Semifinal Loss to No. 1 William Carey

Rams See Season End Wednesday Afternoon in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Soccer team saw their 2021 season come to an end on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 10 with a 9-0 loss to the top-ranked William Carey Crusaders in the semifinals of the SSAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The loss eliminates the Rams from the conference tournament as Mobile will conclude the year with a 4-12-2 overall record and a 3-4 conference record.

In Wednesday's loss, William Carey managed eight first-half goals and out-shot Mobile, 28-2. Both of Mobile's shots came off the foot of Mia Mugford who missed wide right of the net early in the first half and was on target in the 79th minute, but a goalkeeper save for William Carey kept the Rams off the board. William Carey later scored their ninth goal in the 87th minute.

Season Recap

During the 2021 season, the second half of the year was much better for the Rams as Mobile started the year 0-8-1 in their first nine matches played. However, since Oct. 2, Mobile has recorded a 4-3-1 record, winning three out of the last four matches entering Wednesday afternoon's match against No. 1 William Carey, who remains undefeated at 17-0.

On the year, Mobile scored 29 goals this season and was led offensively by Anakah Madril and Elke Fernandez who both led the Rams with five goals a piece on the year. In her first season with the Rams, Maria Eduarda Rocha Bento led Mobile in shots taken with 52, scoring three goals. Anakah Madril was named to the SSAC Women's Soccer Second-Team All-Conference Team last night at the annual awards banquet following her performance on the field this year.

Elaina Davies, Nana Sofie Kumai Bjerre, and Madril were the only three Rams to start all 18 matches during the 2021 season. Kumai Bjerre was named to the SSAC All-Freshman Team last night in her first collegiate year.

For Mobile, Head Coach Brian Person and his returners head into the offseason and will begin preparing for the 2022 season set to begin in August of 2022.
