MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of Mobile Volleyball program wrapped up pool play in the SSAC Volleyball Championship Tournament on Friday, Nov. 12 with two matches after opening the tournament on Thursday, Nov. 11 with a straight-set sweep over Brewton-Parker College, 25-13, 25-10, 25-12. On Friday, it was much of the same as Mobile claimed two victories, one in four sets against Faulkner University, 24-26, 25-4, 25-13, 25-23 in the morning hours and the other coming in the evening over top-seeded Loyola University in five sets, 13-25, 25-20, 25-23, 17-25, 15-11. The 3-0 start to the tournament secures Mobile a spot in the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 13.
Throughout the tournament, Mobile's Melea Meadows has led the way defensively for Mobile with 69 total defensive digs. Meadows was named the SSAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Year on Thursday evening at the SSAC Volleyball Awards banquet.Â
Sarah Warren, who joined Meadows on the SSACÂ Volleyball First-Team All-Conference team this year, has led Mobile with 84 assists throughout the tournament. Warren averages 6.58 assists per set in Mobile's 6-2 offense.Â
Offensively, Abby Andrews paces the Rams with 35 total kills. Andrews was named to the SSACÂ Volleyball Second-Team All-Conference Team. In Mobile's first win over Brewton-Parker, the Rams tallied a .360 hitting percentage. Against Faulkner, Mobile hit .257 while hitting just .135 against Loyola.
Mobile is now scheduled to face Blue Mountain College in the semifinals on Saturday morning, Nov. 13 at 10:00 a.m. CT in Montgomery, Ala. With a win, Mobile will advance to the championship match in the tournament later that afternoon and attempt to repeat as conference champions.Â
