Mobile Mounts Comeback Over Louisiana Christian; Steals Overtime Victory for Sixth Win of the Season

Important Threes Late Propels Rams to Force Overtime and Eventually Defeat Wildcats of Louisiana Christian

PINEVILLE, La. - Following their first conference win of the season last weekend against Faulkner University, the University of Mobile Women's Basketball team returned to non-conference play on Monday evening, Nov. 22 with a road game in Pineville, La. against the Louisiana Christian Wildcats. Despite Mobile leading for much of the first half, the Wildcats of Louisiana Christian, formally Louisiana College earlier in the year, took the lead halfway through the third quarter and held a 10-point lead with just two minutes remaining in the game. However, Mobile managed a comeback to force overtime and eventually defeat Louisiana Christian on Monday, 84-81.

Mobile took a three-point lead to halftime over the Wildcats, but allowed Louisiana Christian to take the lead coming out of the break, only scoring 11 points in the third quarter. Louisiana Christian held the lead until Mobile hit a game-tying three-point shot with 11 seconds left to force overtime in Pineville. Mary Denman Luker was responsible for the made three-pointer for Mobile.

In overtime, the Rams did not see the lead until 29 seconds left on the clock. Claire Worth made a three-point shot to give Mobile a one-point advantage. From there, the two teams traded the lead a couple of times in the closing seconds with the Rams scoring the go-ahead basket with 16 seconds left. Sidney Sims made the layup to give Mobile the lead, forcing Louisiana Christian to foul late. Following two free-throw attempts made by Sims with 10 seconds left, Sims managed a steal on the Wildcats' final possession to seal the win for Mobile.

Offensively, the Rams shot 37% from the floor as a team and 28% from the three-point line. Exactly half of Mobile's 84 points were scored in the paint. Sidney Sims led all scorers with 18 points in the win, while also mixing in five assists, four rebounds, four blocks, and three steals. Mary Denman Luker was second on the team with 17 points and Artasia McDowell led all players with 14 rebounds while tallying eight points. From off the bench, Claire Worth scored 14 points in 20 minutes of playing time.

Defensively, Mobile forced 19 Louisiana Christian turnovers, scoring 21 points off of Wildcat turnovers. As a team, the Rams tallied eight steals and four blocks while grabbing 30 defensive rebounds. Mobile out-rebounded Louisiana Christian, 49-46.

With the win, Mobile is now riding a three-game win streak and improves their overall record to 6-1 on the season. Mobile is a perfect 1-0 in SSAC action and will return to conference play on Thursday, Dec. 2 with a home game against Talladega College at 5:30 p.m. CT. Talladega College also has a 6-1 overall record currently. The game on Dec. 2 will be played in Pharr Gymnasium.
