BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Following back-to-back losses suffered for the first time during the 2021-22 season, the University of Mobile Women's Basketball team managed to get back into the win column on Saturday, Dec. 11 in a non-conference road matchup against the College of Coastal Georgia. Prior to Saturday's game, Mobile fell to Talladega College at home and Spring Hill College on the road the week before. However, the Rams managed to advance their overall season record to 7-3 following their 72-59 victory over Coastal Georgia.
In Saturday's victory, the Rams 41% from the floor and 33% from behind the arch for three. Mobile recorded a 70% free-throw percentage, shooting 21-30 from the line. Senior Artasia McDowell led Mobile in points scored (14) and assists (3) while mixing in six rebounds in the win. Kelsey Pinera, one of Mobile's other seniors, tallied 12 points on Saturday, second highest on the team.
Like McDowell, Pinera finished with six rebounds on Saturday and were joined by MacKenzie White, Erica Jones, and Miya Kimber with six boards a piece. Breannah McCullah led the Rams with seven rebounds in the win while also recording 10 points. Mobile dominated underneath the basket with 49 total rebounds, 16 of those being offensive boards. Coastal Georgia only recorded 30 rebounds as a team.
Mobile returns to action on Dec. 18 with an exhibition game against NCAA D-I opponent Alabama State University in Montgomery, Ala. Exhibition games do not count on the regular season schedule for Mobile. The Rams' next game that counts on their record will come on Dec. 29 with a non-conference road game against Texas Wesleyan University in San Antonio, Tex. The Rams will wait until after the new year to play their next home game in Pharr Gymnasium.
