MOBILE, Ala. - It was the second of two regular season meetings between the University of Mobile Men's Basketball team and Tougaloo College on Thursday, Dec. 16 with the Rams of Mobile looking for the season sweep over the Bulldogs. For the majority of the game, the deficit was close with both teams exchanging the lead several times. After trailing for the beginning stages of the first half, Tougaloo answered late in the half and took a 28-26 lead to halftime. After the break, Mobile managed to grab a 10-point lead halfway through the second half, but was unable to hold the Bulldogs in check, eventually falling to Tougaloo for their sixth loss out of the last seven games.
Both teams struggled offensively as neither Tougaloo or Mobile surpassed a 42% shooting performance from the floor. The Rams shot 33% from the three-point line, hitting nine of 27 three attempts in the defeat. From the free-throw line, Mobile managed to make just half of their 14 attempts. Tougaloo out-rebounded the Rams, 37-33.
For Mobile, the Rams were led offensively by Joshua Williams and Logan Foutz. Both players combined for seven of Mobile's nine made three-pointers in the loss as Williams finished with a team-high 17 points and Foutz finished with 15 points. Joshua Williams also led the Rams in rebounds with eight, two shy of a double-double. Williams played 28 minutes from off the bench.Â
LaDarius Knight made the most of his 16 minutes of playing time on Thursday, recording a season-high 11 points while making two threes. Overall, half of Mobile's points were scored from players off the bench.Â
With the loss to Tougaloo on Thursday night, Mobile's overall season record falls 5-9 on the year with their conference record remaining at 0-3. Mobile is not scheduled to play another game during the 2021 calendar year as the Rams are set to return to action on Jan. 3, 2022 against the current No. 1 team in the NAIA Men's Basketball Top 25 Coaches' Poll, Loyola University. Mobile's next home game is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2022 against Stillman College at 7:30 p.m. CT. Both games are conference games for the Rams.
