MOBILE, Ala. - It was a great offensive showing on Saturday, Jan. 29 for the University of Mobile Men's Basketball team as the Rams cruised past the Blue Mountain College Toppers, 78-53. The 25-point victory for Mobile marks the team's 10th win on the season as Mobile's overall record improves to 10-14 and 4-8 in conference play.
All 12 players that touched the court for Mobile Head Coach Darnell Archey scored at least one point on Saturday as the Rams only trailed Blue Mountain for just the first five minutes of the game. Once Mobile took the lead early in the first half, they never looked back. The Rams shot just under 50% from the floor and 43% from deep for three while the opposition only managed to record a 39% shooting percentage and 12 turnovers. Mobile dominated the rebound battle 42-13 over the Toppers and scored 23 second-chance points.
Senior Gary Jefferson led all scorers with 16 points in 28 minutes of playing time and Sage McKenna managed to score 14 points from off the bench. Tadeas Manas also scored double-digit point totals from off the bench with 10 points in 16 minutes on the court. Manas was 4-4 from the floor and made both free-throw attempts. DaMariee Jones led the Rams with nine rebounds in the victory and Joshua Williams led Mobile with five assists.
Mobile will attempt to use the complete team win on Saturday afternoon as momentum as the Rams are scheduled to host the No. 3 Loyola University Wolf Pack on Thursday, Feb. 3 in Pharr Gymnasium. The Rams missed a go-ahead three as time expired in regulation against the then No. 1 team in the NAIA in the first meeting with the Wolf Pack on the road a few weeks ago.
