Mobile Gets Back Into Win Column with Afternoon Victory at Brewton-Parker College

Mobile's Big First Half Leads Rams to Victory Over Barons

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The University of Mobile Men's Basketball team scored a 62-48 conference victory on the road over the Brewton-Parker Barons on Saturday, Jan. 21, advancing the overall record to 13-7 and 7-5 in SSAC action. Mobile is coming off a loss on Thursday to Middle Georgia State, but bounced back nicely on Saturday. The win gives Mobile nine wins in the team's last 12 games played.

Big First Half the Difference for Mobile

The Rams came out and put together a decent first half offensively through the first 20 minutes against Brewton-Parker, tallying 33 points off a 34.5% shooting line. Brewton-Parker, however, struggled immensely on the offensive side, scoring just 12 points and shooting 11% from the floor through the first half. The 20-point advantage at halftime proved important for Mobile as the Barons came out strong in the second half.

In the second half, Brewton-Parker quickly cut the Mobile lead, outscoring Mobile 13-4 through the first six minutes of the half. Eventually, the Barons made the lead single digits with just over 13 minutes left in regulation. The hot start in the second for Brewton-Parker put the pressure on Mobile as the Rams looked for an offensive run to keep the lead. Up by just five points with 12 minutes remaining, Mobile found a small offensive run to keep the deficit to two possessions. Throughout the rest of the game, the Rams led by two possessions over Brewton-Parker and eventually won the game by 13 points, surviving the second half comeback by the opposition.

Mobile managed a 41% shooting line in the final 20 minutes, giving the Rams a 37.9% shooting percentage overall as a team in Saturday's win. Additionally, the Rams connected with seven three-point shots in the victory, while shooting 50% from the free throw line. Mobile out-rebounded Brewton-Parker 44-40, securing nine offensive boards in the process. Despite the game becoming close in the second half, Mobile never trailed against the Barons on Saturday, leading for all 40 minutes.

Pooh Frazier led all players in the game on Saturday, tallying 19 points. Frazier added nine rebounds, being one rebound shy of a double-double, and recorded three assists and two blocks. He was followed by Ezra McKenna who collected his 14th double-double of the season. McKenna notched 17 points and 10 rebounds in the win, with three rebounds coming from the offensive side. Both Frazier and McKenna scored three three-pointers each against Brewton-Parker.

In addition to Frazier and McKenna's big games, DaMariee Jones finished with 15 points, adding five rebounds, five assists, a team-high three blocks, and team-high two steals in the victory.

Sweeping Dega on the Mind

Mobile's win on Saturday leads the Rams to a big conference game next Tuesday, Jan. 24 at home in Pharr Gymnasium. The Rams will host the always-dangerous Talladega College Tornadoes, last year's NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship runner-up, next Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. CT in search of a regular season sweep during the regular season. Mobile defeated Talladega on the road back on Nov. 29.
