TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's Basketball team finished the regular season schedule for the month of December on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 16, wrapping up the final weekend before Christmas break with a 1-1 record against conference opponents on the road. Mobile began the weekend in Blue Mountain, Miss. with an evening matchup against the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) on Dec. 14, eventually falling by five points in an upset defeat. Two days later, the Rams responded with a victory over Stillman College (Ala.) in Tuscaloosa, Ala., using a second half comeback to grab the win.
Mobile will enter the new year with a 10-3 overall record, while holding a 4-2 record in the SSAC.
Thursday Games Notes: (16) Mobile @ Blue Mountain - 54-59
- Mobile finished Thursday's game with a 42% shooting line as a team, but shot only 35% in the first half.
- For Blue Mountain, the Toppers made 15 shots for a 48% shooting percentage in the first half, but went 9-for-33 in the final 20 minutes.
- Despite Mobile shooting seven percent better, the Topper's strong first half became the difference.
- Joshua Williams led Mobile with 17 points, followed by DaMariee Jones and Treylan Smith who each notched 10 points. Ezra McKenna, Mobile's team leader in offense, was held to just eight points and eight rebounds in the loss.
- Manny Patrick led the Toppers with 15 points, while Trae Jones scored 10 points from off the bench.
- Mobile won the rebound battle 36-34, but turned the ball over 14 times, which led to 16 Blue Mountain points.
Saturday Game Notes: (16) Mobile @ Stillman - 77-72
- Stillman went into halftime with a 35-31 lead over Mobile, with both teams shooting 35% in the first half.
- In the second half, both teams knocked down 14 shots a piece, but Mobile used free throws to eventually work a comeback.
- Mobile finished 21-for-27 from the free throw line, making 13 free throws in the final 20 minutes alone.
- Additionally, the Rams knocked down eight three-point shots in the win, five coming from Trent Moye who led all scorers with 27 points.
- Ezra McKenna and DaMariee Jones followed Moye's offensive production, with both players recording double-doubles.
- McKenna recorded 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Jones finished with 16 points and 10 boards.
- The Rams out-rebounded Stillman, 43-34.
Next on the Schedule
An exhibition game against Nicholls State University (La.) is next on the schedule for the Rams, coming on Dec. 30 at 1:00 p.m. CT in Thibodaux, La. Mobile's next regular season game is scheduled for Jan. 4, 2024 at home against Middle Georgia State.
