Mobile Drops Second-Straight Conference Game at Home

Rams Fall to Life University in Pharr Gymnasium on Thursday Night

H. AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM, MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's Basketball team dropped their second-straight home game on Thursday night, Feb. 16, falling to Life University, 84-76. Despite Mobile taking a three-point lead over Life to halftime, the Rams allowed a second half comeback to the Running Eagles to suffer the defeat. Mobile's overall record falls to 17-10, with the conference record dropping to 11-8. In addition, the loss on Thursday drops Mobile out of sole possession of third place in the current SSAC Men's Basketball standings and puts the Rams in a four-way tie with just one regular season game remaining.

In the first half alone, Mobile outscored Life 42-39, tallying a shooting line at 64% in the first half. Meanwhile, the Running Eagles shot 55% through the first 20 minutes, making 15 shots from the floor. The Rams made one more shot than Life in the first and were led by Pooh Frazier who put up a whopping 20 points alone in the first half. Frazier knocked down five deep three-points shots in the first half and entered the break leading all scorers. He went on to finish the game with 28 points, a new season-high.

In the second half, Life's offense improved by shooting 60% in the second half. The Rams shot 50% in the final 20 minutes, but made just 12 shots in the final 20 minutes. Life finished 15-for-25 from the floor in the second, while outscoring Mobile 45-34 to eventually earn the comeback win.

Behind Frazier's season-high performance, Ezra McKenna tallied 18 points and six rebounds in the loss, while DaMariee Jones ended the game with a double-double. Jones recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds, while leading the Rams with 5 steals. Overall, Mobile saw just five players hit the scoreboard as the bench came away with only five points. Additionally, turnovers came back to haunt Mobile as the team gave the ball away 18 times, allowing Life to score 19 points off giveaways.

Home Finale on Saturday

With Mobile dropping the last two regular season conference games at home, the Rams will look to conclude the regular season on a high note on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 18 in Pharr Gymnasium by defeating Dalton State College at 2:00 p.m. CT. Depending on other scenarios in the conference standings, the Rams can still earn the No. 3 seed after Saturday's game for the upcoming SSAC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament, but with a loss, could fall to the No. 7 seed.

The 2023 SSAC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament is slated to begin on Wednesday, Feb. 22 in Montgomery, Ala.
