SSAC Semifinal Loss for Women's Soccer

Rams lose out to the #1 seeded Crusaders in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Having claimed the #4 seed during the regular season and beating Point University in the opening round of the SSAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament, the University of Mobile Rams Women's Soccer team had a meeting set with William Carey in the semifinals of the SSAC Postseason Tournament on Thursday morning. The Rams finished the regular season with a record of 6-3-1 in conference, while the Crusaders had a perfect 10-0 record, cruising their way to the SSAC Regular Season title as they have done for much of the past decade. The Rams were up against it in the match, facing one of the best teams in the NAIA, and they would find themselves losing out to their rivals once again this season as they suffered a 0-6 loss to cap off their tournament run.

The Rams would fall behind early at the Emory Folmar Sports Complex as William Carey scored just after 2 minutes had elapsed on the clock. Andi Hughes put a shot wide right of the Crusaders net in the 11th minute for Mobile's first chance of the game. Following a series of opportunities for the Crusaders, they would double their tally in the 26th minute before adding on two more goals before the end of the half, putting Mobile down by 4 with 45 left to be played. Mobile would take 3 shots in the second half with each one missing the target as the opposition put two more past Sarah Polk to put the game to bed. The Crusaders would secure their place in the SSAC Championship match by beating Mobile 6-0 while the Rams see their season end in disappointing fashion.

Nettie Cantey had 2 shots for Mobile off the bench while Andi Hughes, Natalie Burt, and Eleanor Cowan all registered one attempt off target. Kaitlyn Skrove and Sarah Polk were the only two Rams to play the full 90 with Polk making 10 saves in the loss, preventing the scoreline from reading as a much heavier defeat for her side.

Up Next for the Rams

Mobile (11-6-1, 6-3-1) sees their season come to an end after a positive year where they reached the ten win mark for the first time since the 2019 season. Mobile will look to improve on this year's campaign when they return for the 2026 season.
