Rams Surge Late to Defeat Blue Mountain

Mobile wins second straight SSAC road game to end 2025, 4-1 in SSAC

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - Playing against conference opposition for the final time in 2025, the Rams traveled down to Blue Mountain, Mississippi after their win over UT-Southern, for a meeting with the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University. The Rams had claimed victory in the previous four meetings between the two sides and were looking to claim a season sweep over the Toppers after winning the home game back on November 22nd by a score of 79-68. That second straight win in conference play would fall Mobile's way at the end of the game as Mobile finished out strong on their way to a 77-63 win that puts them in second place of the SSAC West standings behind Loyola and ahead of Faulkner.

It would be the Toppers who started off hot as the Rams fell behind 0-8 through the first 3 minutes of the game. Kritiyan Vasilev would end the scoreless start with a 3-pointer that jump started a 10-0 run of their own to lead 10-8 through the opening five minutes. Blue Mountain would tie things up with two successful free throws, but a 3-point shot from Mason Sword would give the Rams back the lead as they would go on to hold it for the rest of the night. Mobile would not lead by less than 4 points for the rest of the first half as they took a 34-24 lead into the break behind Zion Hunter's strong first half.

The second half was just as strong for the Rams as they lead by as much as 16 points during the half. Things would become a little shaky for Head Coach Darnell Archey's side towards the final 5 minutes as Blue Mountain closed the gap down to 4 points, but the team would weather the storm and grow their lead back to 14 by the end of regulation. The second half would be highlighted by the performances of Aahmod Scarbrough, Jarvis Moss, and Zion Hunter as they all provided phenomenal effort on offense and defense. With the win, the Rams are now 9-5 overall and 4-1 in SSAC play with 13 games left to play in conference between January and February.

Zion Hunter once again showed his dominance on the court with a 21 point, 10 rebound, 3 block, 2 assist, 1 steal performance. Meanwhile, Aahmod Scarbrough continued to run the floor for the Rams as he led the team with 5 assists while grabbing 7 rebounds and scoring 16 points. Jarvis Moss and Mason Sword both found themselves in the double digits with points scored. As a team, the Rams shot 50.9% from the field and 41.7% from behind the arc while making 73.3% of free throws.

Up Next for the Rams

The Rams head back home for the Christmas holiday break and will return to action on December 29th at the Mitchell Center in Mobile, Alabama for their annual meeting with the University of South Alabama Jaguars. The Rams are 1-14 all time against the Jaguars with the lone win for the Rams against their local NCAA Division I Rivals coming in the 2023-2024 season when Mobile upset the Jaguars 83-74. That game will tip off at 7:00pm CT.
