O. WAYNE ROLLINS CENTER | WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - And just like that, the University of Mobile Men's Basketball 24/25 season comes to a close in heartbreaking fashion. In a season where the team has experienced both the highest of mountains and lowest of valleys, the togetherness that these Rams have shown has been nothing short of inspirational. Unfortunately, this inspirational story will not come with a fairy tale ending as Mobile sees their season end following a 77-93 loss to the University of the Cumberlands.
A Step in the Right Direction
For the Rams, getting to the match against the Cumberlands was a monumental accomplishment. Not only had the team made the NAIA National Championship Tournament for the first time since 2008, the team had won a match in the tournament for the first time since 2004. The first round win against IU-Northwest had not been the prettiest of victories, but it showcased the grit that the team had and their ability to get things done when things get tough. So, when it came time to play the opening round host team, the Patriots, Mobile went into it fearlessly.
Mobile started the match against the Cumberlands and put the hosts on alert to their scoring ability early on, taking a 11-4 lead after only four minutes. The Patriots would slowly cut into Mobile's lead and the two teams would go back and forth for the rest of the half with the Cumberlands taking a narrow 41-40 lead into halftime. BJ Comer led the Rams in Points during the first half with 14 while Ezra McKenna had 7 points with 8 rebounds.
After halftime the Patriots quickly took a 9 point lead, and despite their best efforts, the Rams were never able to bridge the gap to get back into the game. Mobile would go on to lose the match 77-93, but the team can hold their heads high knowing that they have cemented their place in the history books at UM with their performances this season. Individually, Trent Moye also secured his spot in Mobile Men's Basketball history as his 16 point performance against the Patriots pushed his total points as a Ram to 1,002.
Up Next for the Rams
For the University of Mobile Men's Basketball team, they end their season with an overall record of 22-8. The team says goodbye to 8 Rams who are expected to graduate this May. Men's Basketball will return to the University of Mobile in the Fall Semester of 2025.
