Baseball Falls In SSAC Series of the Week Against William Carey

Rams get Swept by Conference Rivals in Away Series to Drop to 19-15 on the Season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Mobile Baseball team suffered a series loss against rivals William Carey over the weekend. The sweep comes in what was dubbed by the SSAC as the Series of the Week for Baseball. Mobile was unable to match the offensive firepower that the Crusaders had on display and will look to regroup in their next series against UT- Southern.

Game One - Mobile 6, William Carey 18 - Seven Innings

Mobile started off game one on the front foot quickly jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning. Cameron Brock hit a double to left center to score Peyton Bell. Brock would go on to score on a fielders choice. Tyler Wabnitz hit a single to right field bringing home Zion Taylor, while Jaron Harris followed it up with a single to center field to score Bryce Eddington. Reece Buck singled to left field which brought home Wabnitz from third. Clint Smith would bring home Mobile's final run with a sacrifice fly to center field which allowed Harris to run in. Mobile did well to hold the lead through the first four innings, leading 6-2 after the fourth. Unfortunately for the Rams, the Crusaders opened the floodgates in the fifth and scored 15 runs on just 7 hits to take away any momentum Mobile had going for it. The game would end 18-6 in favor of William Carey to start the series.

Game Two - Mobile 6, William Carey 22

Mobile started off the day on Saturday taking the lead in the first once again after Peyton Bell doubled to left center before being brought home on a ground out to the short stop. Bell would hit a homer to right field in the second inning to make it 4-1 to the Rams, but the Crusaders would tie it back up shortly thereafter. Zion Taylor picked up an RBI in the fourth inning on a bases loaded walk that saw Tyler Wabnitz score. Bryce Eddington would score on a ground out the the second baseman in the fifth inning which would be the last run Mobile would score in the series. The Crusaders pushed across 8 runs in the fifth inning to take a 14-6 lead over the Rams. Another 8 runs would score for the Crusaders in the sixth inning and the Rams would ultimately fall 22-6 in game two, handing the series win to their rivals.

Game Three - Mobile 0, William Carey 17 - Seven Innings

The Rams failed to get things going in game three of the series, managing only 1 hit in the contest courtesy of a Bryce Eddington single to center field. Jaron Harris and Tyler Wabnitz both were walked in the contest with Peyton Bell also reaching after being hit by a pitch. Mobile lost game three 17-0 and was swept by their rivals to close out the series.

Up Next for the Rams

The University of Mobile Baseball team is back in action on March 28-29 in Pulaski, Tennessee for a conference series against UT-Southern. The Rams are 19-15 on the season with a 6-9 record in conference action.
