WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The University of Mobile softball team saw its 2025 season come to an end on Wednesday, May 14, during the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round in Williamsburg, Kentucky. The Rams picked up a clutch 4–3 win over Cornerstone University in an elimination game before dropping a 1-2 heartbreaker to Texas A&M University – Texarkana in a rematch from earlier in the tournament.
Game 1: Mobile 4, Cornerstone (Mich.) 3 — May 14, 2025
Facing elimination, Mobile came through with a late-game hero. Bethany Dean delivered the walk-off moment in the bottom of the seventh, lacing a pinch-hit RBI single through the middle to score Carleigh Bowden and keep the Rams' tournament hopes alive.
Mobile erased a 3–2 deficit in the final inning to earn the walk-off win in their first match of the day. Miah Simmons got the start in the circle and went five innings, allowing just three runs before handing the ball off to Katelynn Kempton, who closed the game with two scoreless frames to earn the win in relief.
Dean finished 1-for-1 with the game-winning RBI, while Madilyn Sheffield added a solo home run in the fourth to tie the game 2–2.
Game 2: Mobile 1, Texas A&M – Texarkana 2 — May 14, 2025
Roughly 45 minutes after their emotional win, the Rams returned to the field for a rematch with Texarkana, who had handed them their first loss of the tournament two days earlier.
Mobile got on the board quickly with a run in the first inning, courtesy of an RBI double from Madilyn Sheffield that scored Bethany Dean. The Rams held that 1–0 lead into the third, but Texarkana answered with two runs, including the eventual game-winner.
Miah Simmons made her second postseason start of the day, continuing her late-season transition from first base to pitcher. She tossed a complete game, scattering five hits and striking out four over six innings.
The Rams managed five hits in the loss but couldn't string together another rally as their tournament run came to a close.
Up Next for the Rams
Mobile concludes its 2025 campaign with a 33–20 overall record. The Rams will look to build on their strengths in 2026 as they head into the off-season.
