Men’s Basketball Picks Up Big Win Against Night Hawks in Road Battle

The Rams claim their 6th win of the season

THOMASVILLE, GA - The Mobile Rams Men's Basketball team was able to come up victorious in a tight showing against the Thomas University Night Hawks on Thursday night. For a second straight game, the Rams left it down to the wire against another SSAC East representative. Luckily, they found themselves in the win column after holding on by a thread against the Night Hawks, winning by a final of 59-57. This win will put Mobile at a 6-17 overall record, while also holding a 6-6 conference record. The 6-6 conference record puts the Rams in a tie for fourth place in the SSAC West, along with UT Southern.

The Rams began their 20 minute first half slug fest with the Night Hawks with a three pointer from Mason Sword. From there, Mobile began to play catch up as the Night Hawks had pulled ahead. The Rams were able to catch back up due primarily to the play of Kareem Harris, who was able to chip in his best game of his career. He finished with 6 first half points, and Aahmod Scarbrough was able to put up 8 points, with Mason Sword contributing 5. Kris Vasilev and Mo Kamara also played a vital role in their pull-away efforts, showing up with 6 first half rebounds each.

Coming into the second half down 28-30, the Rams kept finding themselves at the brunt of a back-and-forth game with the Night Hawks. This back-and-forth involved Mason Sword and Kareem Harris putting up 23 of the Rams 31 second half points. The Night Hawks kept making the costly mistake of fouling Sword and Harris and bringing them to the line. Both Harris and Sword were the only Rams players to shoot from the charity stripe the entire second half. They made good with those opportunities, going 5-for-6 from the free throw line. However, it was Aahmod Scarbrough who gave the Rams the last laugh, slicing through the paint and making the go-ahead layup with 30.9 seconds left. While the Night Hawks had a chance to make the game winning three with 0.8 seconds left, it sailed over the basket, giving the Rams a much needed road win.

The Rams were able to put up solid shooting numbers in a road win that began their four game stand away from home. Mason Sword put together an 18 point outing, with 7 rebounds and 2 steals. Kareem Harris had a career high 16 points, and Aahmod Scarbrough also chipped in 10 points. The aforementioned rebounding efforts of Kris Vasilev and Mo Kamara also contributed, as they had 9 rebounds and 8 rebounds, respectively. As a team, the Rams shot 40% from the field, and were able to go 71.4% from the free throw line.

Up Next for the Rams
