Women's Basketball Falls in Road Game at Thomas

Rams can't keep up pace; Lose out in fourth quarter

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Rams kicked off the first of four road games as they traveled to Thomasville, Georgia to face the Night Hawks of Thomas University. For Mobile, it begins a stretch a games against Georgia based SSAC opposition, many of which they have not faced in competition this season. The 6-15 Rams looked to improve their standing in the SSAC by taking down the 10-11 Night Hawks, but a slow fourth quarter would sink their hopes and see them drop to 6-16 on the season while holding steady in 10th place.

The first quarter started off nicely for the Rams as Albanie Dixon connected on a 3-pointer, something the Rams have lacked in their previous games. Just one possession later, McKenna Sinon scored her first points of the game with a 3-ball as well. With 2:38 left in the quarter, Deja Pryor secured her first points, nailing two free throws. The first quarter would end all square with both sides ending the 10 minutes of play level at 14-14. Albanie Dixon led the way with 5 points and 3 rebounds while Jada Johnson chipped in with 1 point, 1 assist, and a steal.

The second quarter scoring started straight out of the gates with Albanie Dixon getting a 2-point lay-up after nabbing an offensive rebound. At the 8:36 mark, the Rams nail two back-to-back mid-range jumpers courtesy of Deja Pryor and McKenna Sinon. With a 1:50 left in the half, Deja Pryor hit a 3-point shot before Lamaria Jones tied things up at 29-29. The Rams would trails by 2 points going into the halftime break after a successful layup for the Night Hawks. The third quarter started with a foul and three free throws for Emilee Duet. Duet would have a productive visit at the line making all three shots, and just a couple of possessions later, she would add on a 3-pointer. At the 6:49 mark, McKenna Sinon would hit a 3-point shot giving the lead back to the Rams. The game would go back and forth as the Rams lost the lead again, then gained it back with a lay-up by Mariona Pontnou and a lay-up on the next possession by Emilee Duet. Heading into the final quarter, both teams would find themselves all level again with the scoreboard reading 49-49.

The fourth quarter continued to bring the excitement as both teams played hard defense and drew fouls, trying to outlast their opponent. Deja Pryor would have four quick points with a successful lay-up and jumper, giving her side a 1-point advantage. At the 3:43 mark, Deja Pryor had another 3-pointer off an assist from Mariona Pontnou to close the gap to a 1-point lead for Thomas University. Unfortunately for the Rams, they found themselves unable to score any more points from open play after the 2:47 mark, and several foul calls in favor of the Thomas University would see the Rams fall with a final score of 62-69.

Deja Pryor had 18 points, 5 rebounds, a steal and an assist. Emilee Duet had 3 steals, 11 points and 4 rebounds. McKenna Sinon had 10 points, 2 steals and 2 assists.
