Baseball Plays First Home Games of 2026 Against Georgia Gwinnett

Rams cant find first home win; Drop first two games of the series

JACOBS FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Rams Baseball team headed into their first home games of the 2026 season on Friday looking to upset the Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies. Coming into the season, the Grizzlies were ranked 2nd in the preseason 2026 GoRout NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 poll. The Rams were also looking to continue to build up wins after beating Louisiana Christian University in the final game of the four game series from last week. However, after six hours of baseball on Friday, the Rams would not find themselves improving in the win column. They would head into Saturday's final games with the Grizzlies with an overall record of 1-5.

Game One - Mobile 2, Georgia Gwinnett 6

Logan Brewer would be the first pitcher Rams fans would get to watch at Jacobs Field in 2026. However, the Grizzlies capitalized very early on, ending the top of the first with a run already on the board, thanks to a home run over the right field wall. The score would remain untouched until the bottom of the fourth, where Trevor Murphy knotted things up with a home run of his own into left field. Brewer's day eventually came to an end an inning later, after the Grizzlies scored two more runs on a single up the middle. In the bottom half of the fifth, Dylan Moran helped ease the pain of a run-filled inning, putting the Rams second run of the day on the board. It was his sacrifice fly into left field that scored Adrian Salas and would make the score 4-2 in favor of the Grizzlies. Despite their best efforts, the Rams couldn't get their bats going over the next two innings of play, and they would fall to the Grizzlies by a final score of 6-2.

Game Two - Mobile 4, Georgia Gwinnett 8

Game two of the doubleheader was much more action packed and intense, with the two teams playing a full 9 innings of baseball. Brody Swindle was the starting pitcher for the nightcap, pitching a solid, four full innings. On the offensive side of things, the Rams finally found a lead, thanks to RBI doubles from Jake Hammonds and Eli Smith, whose hits both scored a run each. It was these hits that helped the Rams find themselves up 3-2 heading into the 7th inning. From there, thing started to fall apart for the Rams. It started with a single through the right side that scored a run for the visitors, tying the game up at 3. The Grizzlies then eventually loaded the bases, and made the most of the opportunity. A hit batter allowed the Grizzlies to take the lead, 4-3. The very next at bat, the Grizzlies poked a hit through the left side, scoring two runs, and making the score 6-3. The Rams struggled to bring runners across home plate with just one more run scoring off of an an RBI ground out from Reed Wilson. At the end of the night, the Rams would be on the wrong end of an 8-4 scoreline as they reset and prepared for the rest of the series on Saturday.

Designated hitter Reed Wilson was by far the best with the bat in the second game, getting 2 RBIs in 4 at-bats thanks to reaching first on an error, as well as the aforementioned ground out in the eighth inning.
