Comeback Victory Sees Rams Split Senior Day Doubleheader

Rams fall in series to Faulkner but claim big win to end Senior Day

JACOBS FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Baseball team played their final home games of 2026 this past weekend, with Saturday's doubleheader serving as Senior Day for the 10 seniors on Mobile's roster. The Rams would face off against the Eagles of Faulkner University for the second time this year, having played each other in a non-conference doubleheader last month at Mike Jacobs Field. The Rams were able to split the doubleheader with Faulkner once again, but fell short in Friday's game to lose the series to the Eagles. With the conclusion of the series, Mobile now holds a SSAC record of 14-10 while sitting at 21-26 overall. The series served as a final home sendoff for the following seniors: Dylan Moran, Adrian Roman, Trey Simpkins, Steele Sims, Brody Swindle, Jacob Thompson, Reece Buck, Isidro Jiminez, Wil King, and Grant Driver.

Friday night saw the series open up with a back and forth battle through the first 6 innings. Faulkner opened up the scoring in the first with a 2 run lead, but Mobile would answer back in the fourth, tying things up after RBIs from Trevor Murphy and Ethan Hilpert. The visitors would once again take the lead in the fifth, but Mobile would respond again in the sixth, as Reece Buck would manage a single to right field to score Ethan Hilpert, just before an error allowed Ethan Plank to run home and tie things up at 4-4. From that point on however, Mobile couldn't find the runs that their opponents were finding, eventually taking a 4-10 loss to open the series.

Down 0-1 in the series, Saturday was an opportunity to turn things around with plenty of activities going on during the course of the day. The 2001 World Series team returned to Mike Jacobs Field and was honored prior to the start of game one, while Brady King threw out the ceremonial first pitch to help support the Fighting with Hope charity. On the field, Jacob Thompson got the start on the mound and would throw four complete innings before being relieved by Isidro Jiminez who would see the game out. On the other side of the ball, it was a mostly quiet afternoon for the Rams as they managed just 2 hits, and 1 run in a narrow 1-2 defeat that saw the series claimed by Faulkner. Adrian Salas was responsible for the lone run, striking the ball through the right side to bring home Ethan Plank, who had the only other hit for Mobile.

In complete contrast to the first game of the doubleheader, game two provided electric entertainment for those who watched. It was a tough start for the Rams who, through the first three innings, gave up 10 runs to find themselves staring directly at the potential of getting swept on senior day. Down, but not out, the Rams got to work in the bottom of the third, scoring their first run of the day on a sacrifice fly from Ethan Plank. In the next inning, Reed Wilson doubled to right center to score Ethan Hilpert, who would go on to hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to score Grant Driver. The sixth inning would see the Rams truly come alive, scoring 7 runs to tie things up at 10-10. Mobile wasn't done there however as they would push home two more runs in the 8th innings to secure a 12-10 win over Faulkner to close out senior day with a win. Macks Bishop would get credit for the win on the mound, pitching two innings and striking out 2 batters to close things out.

Up Next for the Rams

Mobile will end the 2026 regular season on the road as they travel to face Point University in one final SSAC series before the conference tournament begins later this month. That road series will begin on April 23rd at 4:00pm CT. The series can be watched live, for free, on Urban Edge Network!
