THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - They say that good things come to those who wait. Well, that would certainly be the case for the Mobile Women's Soccer team as they faced the Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett. There had been an unwanted record growing and looming over the head of the program as they had not seized victory over a NAIA top 25 opponent since their 4-1 win over #1 William Carey on October 28th, 2017. After 90 minutes of back and forth battle on the field, the Rams would come out victorious with a 3-2 win to break that record and move themselves to 3-0 on the season.
It was the Grizzlies who would strike first as they found the back of the net in the 11th minute to put Mobile behind early in the contest. It wouldn't take long for a response however as Suninda Sinhasanee played a ball through the defense for Maya Tait who calmly knocked the ball past the keeper to level things up in the 14th minute.
Just a little under two minutes later in the 16th minute, Andi Hughes would put her name on the scoresheet to put Mobile ahead 2-1 after an assist by Ellie Cowan. Keeping the excitement of the first half going, the visitors would come back and tie things up in the 22nd minute.Â
With the scores level at 2-2, Ariana Taylor put her mark on the game as she would get onto the end of a cross from Charlotte Malamaire before lobbing a shot from the edge of the box over the keeper and into the goal.Â
Kloe Ernst would have a night to remember in goal as she provided 8 saves throughout the 90 minutes, keeping her side in front and stopping several dangerous opportunities for the visitors.
