Women's Basketball History

OVERALL PROGRAM RECORD: 672-456

2024-2025:

Finished the season 22-9 in head coach Sydney Westry's second year. The Rams made the SSAC Championship game losing to Blue Mountain University (Miss.) The team also made the NAIA Championship Tournament facing off against Williams Baptist (Ark.) but ultimately fell in a hard battle for the win. 

Mackenzie White was named as the 2024-2025 SSAC Defensive Player of the Year. Alanna Donaldson and Braylee McMath earned First Team All-Conference while Mackenzie White earned Second Team All-Conference. Mackenzie White was also named the University of Mobile 2025 Scholar Athlete of the Year.

2023-24

Former Ram Sydney Westry named head coach of the University of Mobile Women's Basketball program, leading the team to a 26-7 overall record in her first season, the second-best record in program history. Mobile finished as the runners-up in the SSAC Championship Tournament, falling to Loyola in the championship final. Earned an automatic bid to the NAIA Women's Basketball National Tournament for the first time since the 2016-17 campaign, eventually falling to the University of the Cumberlands in the second round following a round-one win over Bryan College.

Alanna Donaldson was named the SSAC Newcomer of the Year and MacKenzie White was named SSAC Defensive Player of the Year. Donaldson and Erica Jones named to the SSAC Women's Basketball First-Team All-Conference Team, while Braylee McMath earned second-team all-conference honors. Jones and Miya Kimber named to the SSAC Women's Basketball All-Tournament Team.

Two members earned Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes, with seven earning conference all-academic selections. MacKenzie White named to the SSAC Barnes & Noble College Scholar-Athlete Team.

2022-23

Finished the season with a 13-16 overall recording, while ending the year with a 9-9 SSAC record. Fell in the first round of the 2023 SSAC Women's Basketball Championship Tournament to William Carey.
 

2021-22

Finished the 2021-22 season with a winning record at 14-11, while going 8-8 in SSAC action. Mobile started the season claiming victories in six of their first eight games, but struggled in the second half of the season. The Rams were eliminated from the conference tournament in heartbreaking fashion, which saw their season come to an end.

Erica Jones and Sidney Sims both earned SSAC Second-Team All-Conference honors.


2020-21

Finished with a 12-8 overall record and 7-6 SSAC record. Fell to Faulkner University in the first round of the SSAC Women's Basketball Championship Tournament.

Artasia McDowell was named the SSAC Defensive Player of the Year, becoming just the second Ram to earn the honor. McDowell was joined by Lauren Bodino and Kelsey Pinera on the SSAC Second-Team All-Conference team.

2019-20

Team finished 17-11 overall and 9-8 in SSAC play. The 2019-20 season would be the first winning season for head coach Erika Stuckman. Kendra Langham was selected to the SSAC 1st-Team All-Conference Team for the second straight year. Langham was also selected as a NAIA All-American Honorable Mention. 

2018-19

In new head coach Erika Stuckman's first year at the helm of the University of Mobile Women's Basketball program, the team finished 14-18 overall and 11-9 in SSAC action. Kendra Langham was named to the SSAC 1st-Team All-Conference Team. Janae Strode made the SSAC 2nd-Team All-Conference team. Strode, joined by Jordan Hall and Lauren Bodino all earned SSAC All-Academic Team honors.

2017-18

Finished with an overall record of 14-15 and SSAC record of 7-9. Marked the first losing record since the 2011-12 season. Ryann Sylvester was named to the SSAC 1st-Team All-Conference Team. McKinely Seal was named SSAC Freshman of the Year.

This would be the final season for Head Coach Billy Evans. Following six seasons with Mobile, Evans would depart following the 2017-18 season and become head women's basketball coach at Martin Methodist College.

2016-17

Finished 22-11 overall and 13-7 in SSAC action. After starting out the season 8-10, they went 11-2 over their last 13 games and then won the SSAC Tournament by winning all three games, including when they knocked off the number one seed (23) Loyola. They fell to (8) Baker in the first round of the NAIA Tournament. Starla Daggan was named 1st Team All-American, SSAC Player of the Year, and SSAC 1st Team All-Conference after ranking third in the NAIA in points per game (19.9), fourth in total points (657), 40th in total steals (65), and 45th in field goal percentage (43.9). Kali Koenig was named Honorable Mention All-American and SSAC 1st Team All-Conference after finishing 19th in the NAIA in total points (540) and 24th in three-point field goals (74). Noelle Morris was named Champion of Character, and was joined on the All-Academic Team by Koenig, Jazmine Atkins, and Kerrie York. 

2015-16:

Finished 16-15 overall and 9-9 in SSAC action. Went 1-1 in the SSAC Tournament, beating William Carey and falling to No. 25 Loyola. Kali Koenig and Starla Daggan each named Honorable Mention NAIA All-America and 1st-Team All-Conference. Nandi Jorden named All-Freshman. Daggan also named SSAC Newcomer of the Year. Kerrie York and Koenig named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. 
 

2014-15:

Finished 15-13 overall and 10-8 in SSAC action. Season ended with SSAC Quarterfinal loss to Martin Methodist. Kali Koenig named 2nd-Team All-SSAC and All-Academic.


2013-14:

Finished 23-9 overall and 14-6 in SSAC action. Won the 213-14 SSAC Tournament Championship and received a bid to the 2014 NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship. Fell 74-72 to 11th-ranked Wiley in the tournament. Deonica McCormick named 1st-Team NAIA All-American, SSAC Player of the Year, 1st-Team All-Conference and SSAC Tournament MVP. Jakela Johnson and Molly Speed named to the SSAC West All-Division Team and Kali Koenig named to the All-Freshman Team. Speed and Alicia Curry joined McCormick on the SSAC All-Tournament Team. Speed, Laura Beth Wright and Kyera Rowe named SSAC All-Academic. Finished season receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25.
 

2012-13:

Finished 16-15 overall and 9-9 in SSAC action in Billy Evans' first year as head coach. Season ended in SSAC Quarterfinals against Lee. Deonica McCormick named All-Conference. Briana Edwards named All-Division. Molly Speed named to All-Freshman Team.
 

2011-12:

Finished 7-21 overall and 4-14 in the SSAC. Alice Honnery named SSAC Defensive Player of the Year and Honorable Mention NAIA All-American. Honnery named All-Conference and Daphnee Frieson named All-Division. Courtney Bayliss, Lauren Bethly and Briana Edwards named All-Freshman. Frieson, Honnery and Kelsie Ruff named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
 

2010-11:

Finished 17-11 overall and 6-6 in the SSAC. Alice Honnery named Honorable Mention NAIA All-American and SSAC Defensive Player of the Year. Honnery and Adrienne Mackay named All-Conference.

2009-10:

Lady Rams finished the year 17-12 overall and 9-9 in conference. Season ended at Loyola in the GCAC Quarterfinals. Alice Honnery was named 1st-Team All-GCAC. She set single-game blocks record with 12 and single-season record with 135.
 

2008-09:

Finished the season with a 14-18 overall mark and a 6-12 GCAC record. Danielle Goodly was named 2009 NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. Goodly and Gerica Johnson were named to the GCAC All-Conference Team.

2007-08:

Finished the season with an 19-13 overall record and a 13-5 record in GCAC action. Danielle Goodly, Sherri McIntosh and Angela Bounds were named to the GCAC All-Conference Team. Crystal Hutchinson was named GCAC Freshman of the Year. Goodly earned NAIA National Player of the Week honors on Jan. 8. Michael Berry took over as the 4th head coach in the program's history with 18 games left in the season. Season ended with a 74-72 loss at Xavier in the GCAC Tournament.

2006-07:

Finished with a 20-12 overall record and a 11-7 conference mark. Lost to Loyola in the GCAC Quarterfinals. Emmerentia Ledwaba was named to the GCAC All-Conference Team and earned NAIA Player of the Week honors.

2005-2006:

Finished with a 23-6 record overall and a 10-3 record in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. The Lady Rams defeated Loyola and William Carey to win the GCAC Tournament after being co-regular season conference champions with William Carey. The season ended in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament at the hands of Freed-Hardeman 71-56. The Lady Rams finished the season ranked #18 in the final Top-25 poll.

2004-2005:

Finished the season with a 25-9 overall record. Finished as the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular season and tournament runner-up behind Xavier University. Lost to Carroll College in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament.

2003-2004:

Finished the season with a 16-14 overall record. Finished third in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference after posting a 10-8 record in conference action. Lost to Spring Hill College in the first round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. 

2002-2003:

Finished the season with a 22-13 overall record. Finished fourth in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference after posting a 9-7 record in conference action. Upset No. 1 seeded Xavier University 71-70 in the semi-final round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament but eventually lost to Dillard University 56-51 in the championship game. Lost in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament 62-48 to Vanguard University.

2001-2002:

Finished the season with a 30-6 overall record. Won the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular season championship after posting a 15-1 record in conference action and defeated Xavier University 76-70 in the championship game to win the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. Advanced to the "Sweet Sixteen" of the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history. Lost to Campbellsville 61-60 in the "Sweet Sixteen." Set a school record for wins in a season with 30. Lumbsley would go on to be chosen in the third round of the WNBA draft by the Utah Starzz.

2000-2001:

Finished the season with a 13-14 overall record. Finished fourth in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference after posting an 11-5 record in conference action. Lost to Xavier University in the second round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

1999-2000:

Finished the season with a 13-18 overall record. Finished in fourth place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference after posting an 8-8 record in conference action. Lost to Spring Hill College in the second round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

1998-99:

Finished season at a 14-18 record and a 11-7 GCAC record. Beat Loyola in the first round of the GCAC Tournament 100-82. Then lost to Louisiana College 75-59 in the 2nd round.

1997-98:

Finished the year with a 13-19 record and had a 9-9 GCAC finish. Lost to William Carey in the first round 73-66.

1996-97:

Finished the year with a 23-10 record and a 14-2 record in conference. Beat Spring Hill College in the first round of play 69-59. Lost to Tougaloo College in the second round 77-69.

1995-96:

Coach Martha Gore Algernon took over the Rams this year and had a 21-12 record with a 11-5 GCAC finish.

1994-95:

Finished with a 24-8 overall record and a 13-3 finish in the GCAC. Lost to William Carey in the first round of the GCAC Tournament 64-53.

1993-94:

Finished the year with a 15-16 record along with a 5-11 GCAC finish.

1992-93:

Finished the season with a 22-9 record overall and completed the GCAC regular season with a 13-3 record. Participated in the District 30 Tournament and beat Xavier University 85-65 and beat Louisiana College in the Championship game 79-52. Made the program's second trip to the NAIA National Tournament and lost to Hastings College 69-59.

1991-92:

Finished the season with a 18-12 record and 13-3 mark in the GCAC. Played Xavier in the first round of the District 30 playoffs and lost 86-62.

1990-91:

Coach Curt Berger took over the women's program after Phil Headley stepped down due to health issues. The team finished with a 22-8 record and completed GCAC play with a 15-1 record. The Rams made their first NAIA National Tournament appearance.

1989-90:

Finished the season with a 15-13 record and an 11-5 GCAC record. Participated in the District 30 Tournament for the first time ever and lost to Xavier 62-48.

1988-89:

Finished the season with a 17-16 overall record and a 7-9 GCAC record.

1987-88:

Coach Phil Headley pioneered the women's basketball program at Mobile. Team finished 8-23 (3-13)
