Jake McGowin

Jake McGowin

Jake McGowin enters his first season as assistant softball coach during the 2024 season, where he will assist seventh-year head coach Alison Sellers-Cook. Originally from Pensacola, Fla., McGowin has called Bay Minette, Ala. home for the past 20 years. 

Prior to his new role at the University of Mobile, McGowin has worked in the Baldwin County School District for over 23 years. He served and positively led students in the roles of teacher (National Board Certified 2009), coach, and administrator as an assistant principal. He was named the Baldwin County Middle School Coach of the Year in 2003.

McGowin has ties to the University of Mobile, with his wife, Jamie, playing softball at UM from 2001-2003, finishing as the national championship runner-up on the 2003 squad. Jake and Jamie have two daughters, Brooke (15) and Belle (12). Education / Playing Career

During his time in college, McGowin played baseball collegiately at the University of Alabama Southern, now known as Coastal Alabama Community College North, and Auburn University of Montgomery (Ala.). In 1995, he was selected as an all-state player under head coach Barry Dean, while being named as All-American selection later at AUM in 1998 under head coach Q.B. Lowe.
Other Interests

Aside from coaching, McGowin enjoys traveling across the country to watch his oldest daughter, Brooke, compete at the highest level in Fastpitch Softball, and his youngest daughter, Belle, compete in junior rodeos with her favorite horse, Nellie.
