During his time as a student at the University of South Alabama, Pettway served as a basketball manager for the Jags Women's Basketball team. Following graduation, he came to the University of Mobile, where he was a graduate assistant coach for the women's basketball team, helping lead the team during the 2023-2024 season to a runner-up finish in the SSAC as well as a NAIA National Tournament bid.
Pettway has also served as Head Girls Basketball Coach at i3 Academy in Birmingham, AL, where he supervised all operational aspects—including staff management, athlete development, budgeting, scheduling, facilities, and fundraising. Pettway was given the opportunity to start the program as it was the first year of athletics.Â
"First, I want to give all thanks to God for blessing me with this opportunity! Also I want to thank Head Coach Sydney Westry, Athletic Director Sally Shouppe, and Vice President Tim Adams, for welcoming me back with open arms.
