University of Mobile Athletic Director Sally Shouppe officially announced the hire of Sydney Westry as the next head coach of the University of Mobile Women's Basketball program in March of 2023. In her first season with Mobile, Westry led the Rams to the program's second-best season in history, finishing with a 26-7 overall record and qualifying for the NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship Tournament.
Prior to Position at University of MobileÂ
Westry, a University of Mobile Alumna and Mobile, Ala. native, returned to UM after serving as assistant women's basketball coach at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala. over two seasons. Before her time at Spring Hill, Westry served two seasons as assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Tennessee Southern, formerly known as Martin Methodist College, and served as graduate assistant for Troy University's Women's Basketball program for two years while receiving her master's degree.
About Her
A notive of Mobile, Westry recieved her high school diploma from Faith Academy before attending the University of Mobile. She would go on to graduate from the University of Mobile in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, while proving to be a pivotal member of the UM Women's Basketball program from 2014-2017. Westry helped guide Mobile to two SSAC Women's Basketball Championships and NAIA National Tournament berths.
