BIO

Daniel Whelan will begin his 11th season at the helm of the University of Mobile Men's Soccer program in the Fall of 2024 after taking his team to its fifth-straight NAIA National Championship Tournament appearance in 2023. The Rams have finished as the runner-up in two-straight NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship match appearances from 2021-2022, falling to Keiser University in 2021 and Bethel University (Ind.) in 2022.

Before taking over as head coach at Mobile, he previously spent five seasons at as assistant coach for the Rams, with prior stops at Spring Hill and Embry-Riddle.

 

Head Coach at Mobile (2014-Present):

  • 145-43-15 overall record as Head Coach at Mobile.
  • Six-Time Regular Season SSAC Champions.
  • 2023 SSAC Tournament Champions.
  • Four-Time SSAC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year (2014, 2019, 2021, 2023).
  • SIx NAIA National Championship Appearances: Quarterfinals (2014 & 2019, 2023), Opening Round (2020), and National Championship Finals (2021 & 2022).
  • Coached 26 NAIA All-Americans, one NAIA Player of the Year, 32 First-Team All-SSAC selections, two SSAC Offensive Player of the Year winners, two SSAC Golden Boot winners, five SSAC Defensive Player of the Year winners, three SSAC Golden Gloves winner, one SSAC Newcomer of the Year winner, one SSAC Freshman of the Year, and 30 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Assistant Coach at Mobile (2009-13):

  • Team went 68-32-5 in time as Assistant Coach
  • Four trips to the NAIA National Championship Tournament
 

Prior to Mobile:

  • Interim head coach at Spring Hill in 2009
  • Volunteer coach at Embry-Riddle in 2007

Playing Career:

  • Embry-Riddle 2003-06
  • Two-time NAIA All-American
  • Three-time All-Conference selection
  • Florida Sun Conference Player of the Year
  • CoSIDA Academic All-District selection
  • Played at highest level of youth soccer in England, the FA Youth Premier League with the Blackburn Rovers Football Club (2001-03)
  • Bachelor of Science in aeronautical business administration from Embry-Riddle in 2007
