HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Mobile Women's Soccer team concluded the 2021 regular season with a 7-1 loss to the top-ranked William Carey Crusaders on Thursday, Oct. 28 in Hattiesburg. With the loss, Mobile's overall record on the regular season finishes at 3-11-2, with a conference record of 3-4 to earn the Rams the No. 5 seed out of six teams in the SSAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.
William Carey, who will finish a perfect 16-0 in regular season action and as the No. 1 team in the NAIA, earns the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament which awards them a BYE in the first round. Mobile will have to travel to Dalton, Ga. for a match against the No. 4 seed Dalton State Roadrunners in the opening round. Mobile lost to Dalton State at home earlier this season, 3-0.
In Thursday evening's loss to William Carey, Maria Eduarda Rocha Bento was responsible for Mobile's lone goal in the 37th minute. From there, it was all Crusaders as William Carey out-shot Mobile, 29-7. Despite allowing seven goals, Mobile goalkeeper Payton Lewis did collect nine saves in the defeat.
A date and time for Mobile's postseason match with Dalton State has not been announced yet, however, the match will take place between Nov. 4-6 in Dalton, Ga.
