MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team began conference play on Saturday, Nov. 20 with an early afternoon game against Faulkner University at home in Pharr Gymnasium. Saturday's game was the start of SSAC play for both teams as Mobile managed to come away the winner, defeating the Eagles, 60-55.
Entering Saturday's matchup, Faulkner averaged just over 80 points per game offensively while Mobile averaged just 62 points per game. Mobile's defense held the Faulkner offense in check on Saturday as the Eagles failed to score over 55 points.
Mobile tallied a total of 10 steals and four blocks as a team in the win, and managed to force 16 Faulkner turnovers. The Rams scored 14 points off Eagle turnovers in the victory. Mobile's Sidney Sims, MacKenzie White, and Kelsey Pinera all led Mobile with two steals a piece while Artasia McDowell led Mobile with two blocks and seven rebounds.Â
Sidney Sims led Mobile offensively as well, scoring a team-high 15 points and shooting 5-10 from the floor. From off the bench, MacKenzie White tallied a new season-high in Saturday's win, scoring 12 points in the win, shooting 5-6 from the free-throw line in her 20 minutes of playing time. White's previous season-high sat at seven points in Mobile's season opener against Dillard.
As a team, Mobile only shot 34% from the floor and 31% from the free-throw line. However, defensive stops on Faulkner seemed to give Mobile the edge over the Eagles on Saturday.
The Rams' overall record improves to 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. Next on the schedule, Mobile hits the road to Pineville, La. on Monday, Nov. 22 for a non-conference game against Louisiana Christian University, formally Louisiana College before undergoing a name change this semester, at 5:30 p.m. CT.
