Dalton State Controls Tuesday Conference Game Against Mobile in Pharr Gym

Rams Lose Tough Tuesday Evening Matchup to Dalton State

MOBILE, Ala. - Nothing seemed to go right on Tuesday evening, Dec. 14 for the University of Mobile Men's Basketball team as the Rams fell to conference foe Dalton State College, 70-43. Dalton State came out strong, scoring 46 points alone in the first 20 minutes of play while only allowing 15 Mobile points in the first half. At the start of the second half, Mobile managed to cut the 31-point deficit as the Rams went on a 17-4 run in the first seven minutes of the half, but the large deficit at the break was too much for Mobile as Dalton State began another offensive run late in the game to claim the 27-point victory. Mobile's overall record falls to 5-8 with the loss and 0-3 in SSAC play.

In the defeat, Mobile struggled to get the basketball to fall in the basket, shooting just 36% from the floor as a team and 37% from the arch for three. The Rams shot 41% from the free-throw line on Tuesday and were out-rebounded by the Roadrunners of Dalton State, 29-25. Dalton State managed 30 points in the paint compared to Mobile's 14 points on Tuesday. Turnovers were also in favor of Dalton State as Mobile committed 13 turnovers compared to the Roadrunners' eight.

Gary Jefferson led all scorers with 15 points on Tuesday, 12 of those points coming in the second half. No other Ram surpassed seven points in the loss. Tadeas Manas led the Rams in rebounds with seven, three of which were offensive boards.

Mobile will look to shake off the tough loss on Tuesday and turn their attention to Tougaloo College for a non-conference game on Thursday, Dec. 16 at 5:00 p.m. CT. The Rams defeated the Bulldogs of Tougaloo on the road back on Dec. 4. Thursday's home game will be the final home game of the 2021 calendar year for Mobile as they are scheduled to return to Pharr Gymnasium on Jan. 6 of the new year.
