Mobile Goes 1-1 in Saturday Matches, Losing Their First Match of the Year to Spring Hill

Mobile Defeats Brewton-Parker, Drops Five-Set Match to Spring Hill on Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MOBILE, Ala. - It was a busy day on Saturday, Sept. 18 in Pharr Gymnasium as three volleyball matches were played throughout the day, two involving the undefeated University of Mobile Volleyball team. Mobile began the day with a morning match against conference opponent Brewton-Parker College and handled the Barons well, earning a straight-set sweep, 25-13, 25-10, 25-18 to go 10-0 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. From there, the Rams sat in the stands and scouted crosstown rival Spring Hill College when the Badgers took on Brewton-Parker in the Pharr following Mobile's win.

After Spring Hill earned a straight-set sweep over Brewton-Parker, Mobile and the Badgers squared off on Saturday afternoon in front of a sellout crowd in Pharr Gymnasium. The crosstown rivals were evenly matched on Saturday, with Spring Hill taking the first set, 25-22. Mobile followed that up with a set two win with the same score, 25-22. Momentum seemed to be on Mobile's side following set two as the Rams controlled set three, defeating Spring Hill, 25-15. However, Spring Hill bounced back with a much-needed set four win, 25-18.

In the fifth and final set, it was all Mobile early as Spring Hill made costly mistakes. At one point in the set, Mobile was up, 8-3, just seven points away from a match win as only 15 points are needed to win set five. However, well-used timeouts and right-side attacks for the Badgers gave Spring Hill the edge as they managed five-straight points late in the set to tie it and eventually win the set. Spring Hill claimed the match win in five sets, handing Mobile their first loss of the 2021 season.

On Saturday, Mobile recorded a .263 hitting percentage in their win against Brewton-Parker and a .266 hitting percentage against Spring Hill. Abby Andrews totaled 21 kills through both matches, which led the team. Mobile's Melea Meadows led the Rams with 29 total digs on Saturday and Sarah Warren tallied 52 total assists through both matches. Andrews and Aleah Kennedy played well at the net, leading Mobile with seven block assists on Saturday.

The Rams will regroup and travel to Pensacola, Fla. on Tuesday, Sept 21 for a non-conference match against Pensacola Christian College at 6:00 p.m. CT.
