Rams Survive Two Weekend Conference Matches on the Road

Mobile Stays Perfect in Conference Play; Advances Overall Record to 13-1

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BLUE MOUNTAIN, MISS. / TALLADEGA, ALA. - The University of Mobile Volleyball team hit the road for their first away conference matches this weekend, traveling to Blue Mountain, Miss. on Friday, Sept. 24 and Talladega, Ala. on Saturday, Sept. 25. Friday's match against Blue Mountain College featured the top two teams in the current SSAC Volleyball standings and was tabbed as the SSAC Volleyball Game of the Week. Saturday's match against Talladega was the first time Mobile and Talladega have met in 10 seasons.

MOB @ BMC

On Friday, the SSAC Volleyball Game of the Week lived up to the hype, as the Rams and Toppers of Blue Mountain gave fans a five-set showdown. Mobile eventually came away with the win, taking sets one, four, and the deciding fifth set with the scores of each set being 25-21, 17-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-11.

Mobile did not hit the ball consistently Friday night as the team hitting percentage fell below .200. Mobile committed 29 attack errors in 189 attempts and finished with a .175 hitting percentage. Carli Rouse led the team with 15 kills in the match.

Sarah Warren paced Mobile with 29 assists in the win. Both Warren and Rouse were inactive in Mobile's previous match last week against Pensacola Christian College. Defensively, Warren was second on the team with 17 digs while Melea Meadows once again led Mobile in defensive digs with 25.

MOB @ DEGA

Following Friday night's win, Mobile hit the road to Talladega, Ala. and arrived early in the morning. Saturday's match against Talladega was scheduled for the afternoon hours. Despite the travel and likely lack of sleep, Mobile managed to defeat the Tornadoes in four sets, 25-17, 26-28, 25-18, 25-19.

The Rams struggled again to hit the ball consistently, recording just a .030 hitting percentage. Abby Andrews was the only Ram to record double-digit kill totals, recording 10 on the afternoon. Mobile recorded 33 kills as a team.

Sarah Warren was credited with only 13 assists in Saturday's win which ties her lowest total in a match played this season. Freshman Tatum Beech was responsible for eight assists as Mobile recorded a total of 31 assists in the match.

Madison Bergeron had a great match defensively, leading the team with 22 digs in the win. Melea Meadows finished with 21 digs and Abby Andrews recorded 20. The Rams as a whole recorded 84 digs.

Following both wins this weekend, Mobile has improved their overall season record to 13-1 and 4-0 in SSAC play. Mobile will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. on Tuesday, Sept. 28 for their next scheduled match; a conference rival match against William Carey University at 6:00 p.m. CT.
