MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team faced off with Dillard University for the second time during the 2022-23 season on Monday, Dec. 12 and came away with a 60-46 win over the Bleu Devils at home. The two teams met earlier in the year in New Orleans, La., with Dillard defeating Mobile, 58-54. On Monday, the Rams got revenge over Dillard and earned an important non-conference victory ahead of two conference games at home later this week. The win for Mobile advances the overall record on the season to 4-8.
Mobile Holds Dillard In Check
At the start of Monday's game in Pharr Gymnasium, Dillard came out scoring the first four points of the game. Eventually, Mobile got on the scoreboard in the third minute of the game, but trailed Dillard, 5-1. At the game's first media timeout, the Bleu Devils led Mobile, 7-4. However, the game shifted in favor of the Rams following the media timeout.
With five minutes remaining in the first quarter following the media timeout, Mobile managed a 14-3 run over Dillard to lead the Bleu Devils 17-10 at the end of the first quarter. From there through the rest of the game, Mobile held the lead and outscored Dillard in every quarter, seeing their largest lead in the game grow to 17 points. Eventually, Mobile picked up their fourth win of the season, winning by 14 points.
The Rams shot 48% from the floor on Monday, while increasing their free throw percentage on the season from 58% to 60% through 12 games. In the win, Mobile made 12 of 17 free throw attempts, with MacKenzie White shooting a 8-for-8 at the line. White finished with 10 points and five rebounds in 29 minutes from off the bench.
Erica Jones led Mobile with 16 points in the win, adding two steals and two rebounds. Jones continues to average over 13 points per game on the year. Meanwhile, Rachel Leclerc finished two points shy of a double-double as the sophomore led all players with 11 rebounds.
As a team, Mobile out-rebounded Dillard 35-23, while committing 25 turnovers and scoring 23 points off 18 Dillard giveaways. The Rams will look to decrease the turnover total in their next matchup on Thursday as Monday's 25 giveaways was the second highest amount in a game this season.
Back to Conference Action
Mobile will host two more games in Pharr Gymnasium this week, with the first coming on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m. CT. The Rams will face Middle Georgia State on Thursday, and will follow that with a 12:00 p.m. CT game against Brewton-Parker College on Saturday, Dec. 17. Both games are conference's games in the SSAC.
