AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM, MOBILE, Ala. - For the first time during the 2022-23 season, the University of Mobile Women's Basketball team has managed a winning streak ahead of the Christmas holiday, with Mobile winning their third-straight on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 17 over Brewton-Parker College at home. With only eight active players, the Rams put together a 43-point second half to hand a talented Brewton-Parker team just their fourth loss on the year. The win for Mobile propels the overall record to 6-8 and 3-2 in SSAC action.
Mobile Claims Third-Straight Behind Season-Highs for Temple and White
Mobile started strong on Saturday in Pharr Gymnasium, leading Brewton-Parker for the majority of the first quarter, while never trailing through the first 10 minutes. The Barons managed to tie Mobile several times early, but only saw their first lead in the game halfway through the second quarter. In the second quarter, Brewton-Parker outscored Mobile 19-14 after tying the game at 17 to end the first. At halftime, it was the Barons who had the lead by five, 36-31.
In the second half, Mobile put together a monster half, surpassing 20 points in both the third and fourth quarters. In the fourth, Mobile went on a 20-0 run over Brewton-Parker, with the Barons not scoring their first point in the final quarter until two minutes remaining in regulation. From there, Mobile's big half gave the Rams the comeback win, 74-64.
In the win, Mobile saw two players record season-highs, with Alesha Temple leading all players in the game with a season-high 23 points. Temple added four blocks and was one rebound shy of a double-double. Teammate MacKenzie White also recorded a season-high in the victory, coming away with 18 points. White added seven rebounds and five assists to her 18 points on Saturday. Additionally, Cosette Balmy recorded a season-high 11 assists in the win, tallying six points, while Erica Jones finished with 11 points.
As a team, Mobile shot the ball well, ending the day with a 53.8% shooting line. The Rams made 17 of 21 free throw attempts and scored 48 points in the paint against Brewton-Parker.
Exhibition Up Next
The Rams will play one more game before Christmas, coming next Monday, Dec. 19 in Montgomery, Ala. Monday's game will not count on the regular season schedule for Mobile as the Rams face Alabama State University in an exhibition game. From there, Mobile will return to regular season play on Dec. 30 in Pharr Gymnasium with a non-conference game against Truett-McConnell University.
