TUSKEGEE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's and Women's Tennis teams, led by head coach Uwe Tittl, opened up the 2022 season on Friday, Feb. 11 with afternoon matchups against Tuskegee University, a NCAA Division II opponent, in Tuskegee, Ala. Both Mobile teams looked strong, claiming 7-0 sweeps over the Golden Tigers to start the season 1-0.

Mobile claimed two wins on the court in doubles action on Friday with the other being a default victory. Mobile's two teams of Emily John / Luana Wild and Sofija Hrovat / Alina Schweizer each earned 6-0 victories over the counterparts in doubles action. The team of Melody Holcomb / Paula John was given the default win. Doubles win counts as one point on the score sheet in collegiate tennis.
In singles play, the women's team at Mobile looked great, earning three individual sweeps across six singles wins. Sofija Hrovat, Alina Schweizer, and Melody Holcomb all swept their opponents 6-0, 6-0 in two sets played. Paula John was the eventual clinching point for Mobile, winning her singles match 6-1, 6-3 while Gabriela Eva was awarded a default win. Luana Wild was the only Ram forced to play three sets in singles action on Friday, winning her match 6-0, 5-7, 10-7.
The University of Mobile Women's Tennis team currently sits outside of the top 25 in the first NAIA Women's Tennis Top 25 Coaches' poll, but made an impressive case to receive votes following their 7-0 victory over NCAA D-II opponent Tuskegee.

Entering the 2022 season, the men's tennis team at Mobile currently ranks No. 14 in the NAIA Men's Tennis Top 25 Preseason Coaches' poll. In singles action, each Ram only needed two sets to win across six singles matches and earn Mobile six points on the score sheet.
First-year Ram Joao Okano won his match 6-2, 6-2 while senior Boris Klingebiel defeated his opponent, 6-1, 6-1. Both Santiago Diloreto and Aoi Kambara earned 6-2, 6-1 victories on Friday while Gonzalo Pozo won his match 6-1, 6-0. Austin Schofield was Mobile's No. 6 player in the singles lineup as he claimed victory in his match, 6-4, 6-0.
It was much of the same in doubles action for the Rams as Mobile claimed three doubles wins over Tuskegee, one via a tiebreaker. The team of Sergio Ruiz Ramiro and Santiago Reyna cruised to a 6-0 win in their doubles match and Joao Pedro Okano and Boris Klingebiel won their doubles match, 6-1. Jan Vrba and Aoi Kambara were forced into a tiebreaker where they eventually won 7-6 (7-3).
Back in Mobile
Both tennis teams at Mobile are scheduled to face crosstown rival Spring Hill College at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala. for their next match on the 2022 schedule. The match against Spring Hill is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 18 at 12:00 p.m. CT.
