Rams Allow Fourth Quarter Comeback; Fall to Stillman College Monday Night

Mobile Drops Big Conference Game to Stillman on Valentine's Night

MOBILE, Ala. - In a game that went back and forth for its entirety between the University of Mobile Women's Basketball team and the Stillman College Tigers on Valentine's night, Feb. 14, it was the Tigers of Stillman who came away victorious 65-62 after a late comeback in the fourth quarter over Mobile. Entering Monday evening's game, both teams were tied in the SSAC Women's Basketball Standings, with a spot in sole possession of third place on the line as the regular season is set to close later this week. Stillman defeated Mobile in Tuscaloosa, Ala. earlier in the season by the same score. The Rams' season record falls to 13-9 with the loss and 7-7 in conference action.

From the first whistle, Mobile and Stillman stayed close in the scoring column with the deficit never exceeding seven points. The two teams traded the lead several times throughout the first half and the Rams managed a make buzzer-beating three via Mary Denman Luker right before halftime to give Mobile the lead at the break. In the second half, it was much of the same until Mobile managed a small offensive run late in the third quarter to see their largest lead of the night at seven points.

In the final quarter, Stillman forced Mobile turnovers and made shots on their side of the court to put together a 16-point fourth quarter and take the lead off a three-point shot with just over two minutes remaining. From there, two major offensive rebounds in the final minute sealed the win for the Tigers, giving Stillman the season sweep over Mobile and third place in the conference standings.

In the loss, Mary Denman Luker finished with 11 points from off the bench and in just 17 minutes of playing time. Denman Luker's 11 points came in the first half. MacKenzie White and Sidney Sims also scored 11 points each on Monday, with White recording five rebounds and leading Mobile with three blocks.

Mobile was led offensively by Erica Jones who finished with 14 points, four rebounds, three assists, and one block against the Tigers. Jones made seven of 17 shots from the floor as Mobile shot 37% as a team in the defeat. The Rams made 16 of 22 free-throw attempts, missing just one of 11 in the first half while Mobile made just two three-point shots in the game. Both Stillman and Mobile were very even in the box score for each stat.

With two regular season games remaining, one at home and one on the road, Mobile will look to win out to at least earn the four-seed in the upcoming conference tournament. The Rams host Middle Georgia State on Wednesday, Feb. 16 in Pharr Gymnasium for Senior Night where three seniors will be honored pregame. Wednesday's game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT.
