UM Tennis Teams Sweep Spring Hill at Mobile Tennis Center

Rams Own the Badgers with Shutout Victories Over the Weekend

MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's and Women's Tennis teams returned to the court for the second time during the 2022 season on Friday, Feb. 18 with crosstown rivalry matches against Spring Hill College, a NCAA Division II opponent. The matches were played at the Mobile Tennis Center and saw both Mobile teams claim 7-0 victories over the Badgers in two competitive matches. Both teams at Mobile advance their young record to 2-0 on the season.

In the women's match between Mobile and Spring Hill on Friday afternoon, the Rams controlled Spring Hill and claimed six singles victories and all three doubles matches. 

In singles play, Emily John won her match 6-0, 6-0, being the only Ram to shut out a Badger for a win. Sofija Hrovat won her singles match 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 1 slot and Melody Holcomb saw victory with a 6-1, 6-0 final in the sixth slot in the lineup.

Emily John, along with teammate Luana Wild, shut out Spring Hill in doubles action 6-0 from the No. 2 slot out of three doubles matches while Sofija Hrovat and Alina Schweizer won 6-2 and Melody Holcomb and Paula John won from the three slot 6-3.

The women's team at Mobile, led by head coach Uwe Tittl, have two wins against NCAA D-II opponents this season and are now receiving votes for entrance in the NAIA Women's Tennis Top 25 Coaches' Poll.


M TEN Recap - Mobile 7, Spring Hill 0

Uwe TIttl's men's team at Mobile, who currently ranks No. 13 in the latest NAIA Men's Tennis Top 25 Coaches' Poll, battled the Badgers in a very competitive match in front of numerous fans for both teams. Despite dropping one doubles match, Mobile claimed the other two wins in doubles to earn the point and claimed six singles victories for the match win.

Nicolas Mougaillard and Santiago Diloreto won in doubles action 6-3 and Jan Vrba and Aoi Kambara won via tiebreaker in the point-clinching doubles match against the Badgers, 7-6 (12-10).

The Rams won all six singles matches with one going to a third set. Jan Vrba won his singles match 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 in the three slot as Aoi Kambara claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win over Spring Hill. In the No.1 singles match, the reigning SSAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week Boris Klingebiel, won his match, 6-2, 6-2.


Conference Play on the Horizon

Both Mobile teams are set to battle Loyola University (La.) on Friday, Feb. 25 for the first conference matches of the 2022 season. Both matches will be played in New Orleans, La.
