LAKELAND, Fla. - The University of Mobile Men's Tennis team traveled to central Florida over the weekend for two non-conference matches against teams from the Sun Conference. On Friday, Mar. 25, Mobile battled Warner University in Babson Park, Fla. and fell to the Royals, 4-3. The following day on Mar. 26, Mobile squared off against Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla., which saw the Fire of Southeastern defeat Mobile, 6-1.
Mobile entered the weekend undefeated and ranked No. 14 in the latest NAIA Men's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Poll. Southeastern currently sits four spots behind the Rams at No. 19 in the rankings, and Warner managed an upset victory over Mobile on Friday as the Royals are unranked. Mobile's overall record falls to 7-2 on the 2022 season.
After dropping two of three doubles matches in Friday's match against Warner, Mobile's three points came from the two, five, and six flights in the singles lineup. Boris Klingebiel won from no. 2 singles 6-4, 6-4, while Juan Arias won from the sixth seed, 6-3, 6-3. Aoi Kambara put together Mobile's most convincing victory in singles action against Warner, claiming victory over the opposition, 6-1, 6-2.
On Saturday against Southeastern, the Rams' lone win in the match came from Joao Pedro Okano, who won from the two seed in the singles lineup. Pedro Okano won 6-2, 6-3 to avoid the sweep against the Fire.
Mobile will travel to Montgomery, Ala. next Thursday, Mar. 31 for the 2022 SSAC Tennis Round-Up, and a tough matchup against Middle Georgia State. The Knights of Middle Georgia State currently ranked No. 11 in the country. Thursday's match is set for 10:00 a.m. CT.
