Mobile Puts Together 1-1 Day on Saturday; Finishes Faulkner Invitational 2-2

Rams Move Record to 5-3 Following Faulkner Invite

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - After a 1-1 day on Friday, the UM Volleyball team answered on Saturday, Aug. 27 with another 1-1 day, sweeping the College of Coastal Georgia on Saturday morning, and following that with a loss to Southeastern (Fla.) that afternoon. Mobile's record moves to 5-3 overall following this weekend's Faulkner Invitational.

Mobile 3, Coastal Georgia 0

The Rams came out strong to start the day against Coastal Georgia, sweeping the Mariners in straight sets. The sweep on Saturday morning is already Mobile's fourth sweep in eight matches played.

Offensively, Mobile put together their best match of the season, recording a team hitting percentage of .344. The Rams hit over .300 in each of the three sets played. For the Mariners, Coastal Georgia only managed to hit .118 in the defeat, recording 29 kills compared to Mobile's 45 kills.

Senior Abby Andrews led the way for Mobile as she led the match with 15 kills, while hitting .444 in 27 attack attempts. Jordan Wood, another senior, followed Andrews with eight kills while hitting .500. Freshman Corrina Porch-Maxey also contributed with eight kills in the win as she hit .267.

In Mobile's 6-2 offense, the Rams have relied heavily on setters Tatum Beech and Layton Adams. Beech recorded 21 assists in the win, while Adams finished with 19. On the defensive end, Lexi Gillette led all players with 15 digs.


Southeastern 3, Mobile 1

Later that afternoon, Mobile faced Southeastern University and fell to the Fire in four sets. Southeastern came out strong, taking set one 25-14. However, Mobile answered with a 25-15 set two win. From there, it was all Southeastern as the Fire took both the third and fourth sets to claim the match victory. 

In the afternoon loss, Mobile struggled offensively, hitting .109 across four sets. The Rams made 27 attack errors. Freshman Corrina Porch-Maxey put in her best offensive game of the season thus far for Mobile, hitting .306 while leading the team with 15 kills. No other player for Mobile hit above .230.

Four players finished with double-digit dig totals in the defeat, led by senior Abby Andrews with 18. Fifth-year senior Madison Bergeron racked up 15 digs, while Layton Adams finished with 12 and Tatum Beech finished with 11. Both Adams and Beech led Mobile in the assists column as Adams recorded 19 and Beech finished with 15.


Tri-Match Next Weekend

Mobile is set to face two Louisiana NAIA programs next weekend in a tri-match in New Orleans, La. Mobile is scheduled to face Louisiana Christian on a neutral court Saturday, Sept. 3 at 3:00 p.m. CT. Later that evening, the Rams will face Xavier (La.) at 5:00 p.m. CT. Both matches are non-conference matches.
