Sophie Roberts' Career Day Lifts Mobile to Commanding Victory Over Brenau

Roberts Racks Up Four Goals, Two Assists in Labor Day Shutout

GAINESVILLE, Ga. - The University of Mobile Women's Soccer team went to work on Labor Day, facing the Golden Tigers of Brenau University on Monday, Sept. 5. After dropping each of the last two matches to non-conference opponents, Mobile got back into the win column on Monday with a dominating 7-0 win over Brenau behind Sophie Roberts' career game.

In just her second match played on the season, Roberts, a sophomore transfer from Swindon, England, scored her first goal as a Ram in the 45th minute, seconds before the halftime whistle. Roberts transferred to Mobile in the offseason from Meridian Community College. Her goal gave Mobile a 1-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, Sophie Roberts and the Mobile offense exploded, scoring six goals in the 45-minute half. Freshman Madison Beaver scored her second goal of the season in the 46th minute, just one minute after halftime concluded. Roberts was awarded with the assist on Beaver's goal as Mobile led 2-0 over Brenau. In the 54th minute, Bailey Bronner, another freshman for head coach Brian Person, notched her first collegiate goal following another pass by Roberts, who recorded her second assist in two goals.

Later in the 65th minute, Roberts scored her second goal of the match to extend Mobile's lead, 4-0. Freshman Raegan Latiolais was credited with the assist. Before Brenau could regain composure on the defensive side, Roberts scored another goal just one minute later to give the sophomore a hat trick.

Roberts was not done there, however, as she recorded her fourth and final goal of the match in the 71st minute for the haul. Roberts' fourth goal was assisted by Mia Mugford. Both Roberts and Mugford are from Swidon, England and played at Meridian Community College prior to their time with Mobile. The Rams led 6-0 over the Golden Tigers with under 10 minutes remaining.

Due to Mobile's large lead, head coach Brian Person saw opportunity to play several reserves late in the match, which eventually led to Tabitha Jordan scoring her first goal of the season in the 84th minute. Jordan's goal was Mobile's seventh in the match as the Rams went on to win, 7-0.

In her second start in the net, Juliana Gomez was credited with the shutout win for the Rams, tallying four saves. Brenau managed just seven shots in the defeat compared to Mobile's 20 shots. 11 of Mobile's 20 shots were on-goal.

Sophie Roberts' four-goal match ties her for second all-time in program history, being one goal shy of the all-time record with five goals in a single match. Roberts will have a great chance at claiming next week's SSAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after racking up 10 total points, with goals counting as two points and assists counting as one point.

Back in Action on Thursday

Mobile's next scheduled match will come later this week as the Rams go to battle with Point University in West Point, Ga. on Thursday, Sept. 8. Thursday's match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT as the Rams will look to build off their dominating victory over Brenau.

Thursday's meeting between Mobile and Point is the first-ever matchup between the two women's soccer programs.
