PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of Mobile Volleyball team traveled to Pensacola, Fla. on Tuesday night, Sept. 6 for a non-divisional match against Pensacola Christian College, a NCAA D-II member. Mobile entered Tuesday night's bout with the Eagles holding a 6-4 overall record, with five wins being 3-0 sweeps over opponents this season. It was much of the same against PCC on Tuesday, as Mobile cruised past the Eagles for their sixth 3-0 sweep of the season in 11 total matches played. The Rams' overall record improves to 7-4 following the victory, with conference play on the horizon.
Inside the Box Score
Mobile looked solid all around in their 25-19, 25-9, 25-20 win over PCC, hitting .309 as a team on the offensive side. Meanwhile, PCC struggled to hit the ball consistently, recording a hitting percentage at just .109 in the match, tallying 26 kills over Mobile. The Rams recorded 44 kills in 110 attempts.
Layton Adams and Brinkley Hearn led all players with eight total kills each in the win, with Adams hitting a stellar .438 on the night. Additionally, Adams led Mobile in the assist category with a match-high 24 assists across the three sets, while recording the second-most defensive digs on the team with 14.
In addition to her eight kills, Brinkley Hearn also hit the ball very consistent on Tuesday, recording a .368 hitting percentage. Jordan Wood joined Hearn and Adams with great offensive production against PCC as she hit .353 on the night, recording just one kill less on the box score with seven.
Defensively, Mobile was dominant at the net, tallying eight total blocks. Aleah Kennedy led the Rams with five blocks, four of which being blocking assists. Brinkley Hearn tallied three blocking assists. On the back line, Abby Andrews led all players in Tuesday's match with 21 digs.
Conference Play Begins at Home
The 3-0 win over PCC led to a fun Tuesday night for UM Volleyball, heading home with all smiles as the Rams are set to play their first home match of the season next on the schedule. Mobile will host Stillman College in Pharr Gymnasium on Friday, Sept. 9 for not only their first home match of the 2022 season, but their first SSAC Conference match of the year as well. Friday's match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT.
Following Friday's match, the Rams will compete in a tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 10 in Pharr Gymnasium, where Mobile will play conference foe Blue Mountain College at 12:00 p.m. CT, and later face non-conference opponent Warner University that afternoon at 4:00 p.m. CT. Both Blue Mountain and Warner will compete against one another at 2:00 p.m. CT in Pharr Gymnasium.
