COCHRAN, Ga. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team earned a road victory over Middle Georgia State University on Thursday, Jan. 19, extending a current win streak to three games. Earlier in the season, the Rams defeated the Knights 61-53 at home, and ended the regular season finale with Middle Georgia State on Thursday with a 20-point win, 67-47. The victory puts Mobile's overall record back at .500 on the year, improving to 10-10 on the season. Additionally, the Rams' conference record moves to 6-4.
Rams Tally Big Second Half for Win
Mobile looked strong through the first 10 minutes of Thursday's game, outscoring Middle Georgia State, 17-8. However, it was the Knights that held the opposition to eight points the following quarter, outscoring Mobile, 12-8 in the second. Despite the slow second quarter, the Rams still had the edge at halftime, 25-20. In the second half, Mobile's offense turned up intensity a notch, almost doubling the team's first half total. Mobile scored 18 points alone in the third quarter, while ending the fourth quarter with a solid 24 points. In addition, defense on Mobile's side held Middle Georgia State to just 27 points in the final two quarters.Â
The Rams went 0-for-11 from deep in the win, but still managed a 44% shooting line, making 25 shots. From the free throw line, Mobile tallied 17 of 25 made free throws, while the defense came away with a stellar 17 steals as a team. Off Middle Georgia State turnovers, Mobile scored 21 points in the win.
Cosette Balmy played an impressive game against the Knights, leading all players on Thursday with season-high 17 points. She added six rebounds, a team-high six assists and team-high six steals in the win. Balmy was followed by MacKenzie White and Alesha Temple, who each scored 16 points in the win. White added five steals, while Temple's 16 points came in 24 minutes from off head coach Erika Stuckman's bench. Temple finished two rebounds shy of a double-double, and Erica Jones finished one point and two rebounds shy of a double-double on Thursday.
Looking for Four in a Row
Following the convincing win on Thursday, the Rams will travel to Mount Vernon, Ga. for a conference game against Brewton-Parker College on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 21. Saturday's game is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. CT against the Barons.
