MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team saw a three-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 21, falling to Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, Ga., 61-56. Prior to Saturday's loss, Mobile managed three conference wins in a row, including a 20-point victory on the road at Middle Georgia State University just two days ago. However, the loss to Brewton-Parker on Saturday puts Mobile back under .500 on the season at 10-11, with the current SSAC record dropping to 6-5.
Mobile Makes Game Close; Falls by Five
In a first half that saw the Rams trail the Barons of Brewton-Parker by six at halftime, Mobile found an offensive surge in the second half, particularly in the fourth quarter where the team scored 22 total points in the final 10 minutes of the game. However, Brewton-Parker's consistent offense throughout all four quarters of the game eventually proved important as the Barons scored at least 12 points in each quarter, including 17 in the fourth. Despite trailing by nine points early in the fourth, Mobile made it a one-point game with just over four minutes left in regulation. Brewton-Parker's seven made free throws in the closing minutes eventually put the game away, snapping the Mobile win streak.Â
The Rams struggled to shoot in Saturday's action, tallying just a 34% shooting line as a team. In 11 free throw attempts, Mobile made seven, all while tallying five made three-point shots. Mobile collected 41 rebounds compared to Brewton-Parker's 49.
Two Rams were close to recording double-doubles in the defeat, with Erica Jones leading the team with 19 points. Jones finished with nine rebounds, while Cosette Balmy paced the team with 12 boards. Half of Balmy's rebounds were on the offensive side as she finished four points shy of a double-double of her own. Claire Worth finished second on the team in scoring, tallying 15 points with three made threes in the loss. Worth was responsible for over half of Mobile's made shots from deep.
Tuesday Home Action
The Rams are set to return home to Pharr Gymnasium next Tuesday, Jan. 24 with a big conference game against Talladega College. Tuesday's game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT in the Pharr as Mobile looks to sweep the Tornadoes in two games played during the regular season.
