Women's Basketball Earns Non-Conference Road Win in New Orleans

Mobile Knocks Off Dillard for Third-Straight Victory

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team earned a 10-point victory on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 21, defeating non-conference opponent Dillard University (La.), 71-61. The win for Mobile improves the overall record on the season to 7-1 this season and is the third consecutive victory since the Rams' lone loss on the year to Tuskegee University (Ala.) back on Nov. 13.

Game Recap: Rams Hold Off Bleu Devils

Mobile's offense continued the strong start to the 2023-24 season in Tuesday's matchup, opening the game with a 22-point first quarter. Meanwhile, Dillard scored 16 points in the first, while adding just 10 points in the second quarter. For Mobile, the Rams scored 18 points in the second to take a 40-26 lead to halftime. Mobile finished the first half with a mid-40s shooting percentage, making 14 shots from the floor and recording an 8-for-9 free throw mark in the half. Meanwhile, Dillard shot just above 30% in the first half.

In the second half, the Rams put together their best quarter of the game, finishing the third with 23 points and making nine of 16 shots taken. However, Mobile followed the third quarter with a weak fourth quarter, allowing Dillard to close the deficit.

After the Bleu Devils scored 15 points in the third quarter, Dillard followed with a 20-point fourth quarter, while holding Mobile to just eight points through the final 10 minutes. Late in the fourth, Mobile's 20-point lead shrank to just 10, but time fortunately ran out on Dillard's comeback and Mobile earned the 71-61 win. 

Mobile finished the victory with a 42% shooting percentage as a team, making 12 free throw attempts in the process. Mobile out-rebounded Dillard 36-33, recording 12 offensive rebounds for nine second-chance points. The Rams forced 12 Dillard turnovers, finishing the game with seven steals. MacKenzie White led Mobile with three steals in the win.

Alanna Donaldson put up a team-high 16 points on Tuesday, while Erica Jones and Miriam Oldarcre each finished with 14 points. White added nine rebounds, seven points, and a team-high four assists to her steals total, playing a total of 32 minutes from off the bench. Lindi Debilzan joined White in producing off the bench, recording 10 points and two rebounds in 16 minutes of playing time.

Exhibition Ahead

Mobile is set to play the final exhibition game of the season next on the schedule, returning to the state of Louisiana this Saturday, Nov. 25 for a game against Southeastern Louisiana University. Saturday's game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT and will be held in Hammond, La.

Exhibition games do not count on the 2023-24 regular season record for Mobile.
