Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Short for Mobile in Thomasville

Rams Take Loss at Thomas University Despite 27-Point Fourth

THOMASVILLE, Ga. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team dropped a road conference game on Wednesday evening, Jan. 24, being upset 64-59 by Thomas University (Ga.) in Thomasville, Ga. Entering Wednesday's meeting, Mobile has managed a 9-2 conference record in the SSAC, while sitting second in the SSAC Women's Basketball standings. Meanwhile, Thomas entered Wednesday's matchup with a 2-9 conference record, having lost to Mobile 86-67 back in November of this season.

Mobile's overall record falls to 17-4 this year following the five-point loss.

How It Happened

Offense was hard to come by for the Rams on Wednesday, with Mobile scoring fewer than 13 points through the first three quarters of the game. Mobile trailed Thomas 26-20 at halftime, making just three shots from the floor in each of the first two quarters. In the third quarter, the Rams put up 12 points, but allowed the Night Hawks to tally 23 points alone in the third. Thomas took a 49-33 lead to the final quarter of the game.

In the fourth and final quarter, Mobile's offense sparked and the comeback was on. The Rams made 10 total shots from the field in the fourth, scoring 27 points in the process. Alanna Donaldson and Braylee McMath led the comeback as Donaldson scored nine points in the final 10 minutes and McMath totaling eight points in the quarter. However, Thomas made several clutch free throws in the final minutes and managed to escape with a five-point victory.

Donaldson eventually led all players on the court with 20 points in the defeat, adding four rebounds and sharing the team lead with three assists. McMath also finished with three assists, scoring 15 points. Both players combined for 12 of Mobile's 20 made shots from the floor in Wednesday's loss as the Rams finished with a 33% shooting line as a team. Additionally, Mobile only managed a 12-for-22 mark from the free throw line and totaled 43 rebounds. Thomas shot 39% as a unit, adding 39 rebounds and forcing 12 turnovers in the upset win over Mobile.
