AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Volleyball team collected its third consecutive win over Dillard University (La.) this season on Tuesday night, Oct. 29, sweeping the Bleu Devils in three straight sets 25-19, 25-20, 25-19 in Pharr Gymnasium. The victory boosted Mobile's overall record to an impressive 23-4 on the year, while improving the all-time record against Dillard to 35-0-1.
Mobile sits with just three regular season matches remaining this season following Tuesday's win, two coming at home this upcoming weekend.
Match Summary
Mobile showcased a solid and consistent offensive performance on Tuesday, out-hitting Dillard with a .293 hitting percentage compared to Dillard's .144. Key performances included junior Emily Osborne, who led Mobile with 10 kills and a stellar .529 hitting percentage, followed by Layton Adams with nine kills and an impressive .500 hitting efficiency. Dazsha Dean Middleton notched eight kills and Corrina Porch-Maxey totaled seven in the win. Setter Tatum Beech led all players on the floor by recording 21 assists in the victory, helping the Rams maintain consistent offensive pressure throughout the match. Layton Adams added 17 assists in the 6-2 ran offense.
Dillard struggled to keep pace as Vanae Sapp led her team with just eight kills. Dillard managed a 9-3 advantage to begin set three, but Mobile proved to be too strong on the attack, with fantastic defensive plays and effective blocking putting the Rams back out front for the eventual sweep. Libero Jaci Drinnon paced all players with 23 defensive digs on the back line, putting her just 11 digs shy of 500 in her first season with Mobile.
Big Weekend Ahead
Mobile is set to conclude the home portion of the 2024 schedule this upcoming weekend, hosting a pair of conference matches in Pharr Gymnasium on Nov. 1-2. The Rams battle conference rival William Carey on Friday night, Nov. 1 at 6:00 p.m. CT, followed by Senior Day on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. CT match against Loyola (La.). Both matches will be broadcasted live on the University of Mobile Sports Network.
