Volleyball Records Weekend Road Sweep Over Faulkner

Rams Defeat Faulkner Eagles in Straight Sets on Friday Night

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of Mobile Volleyball team improved to 19-4 overall on the season following a conference victory over Faulkner University (Ala.) on Friday night, Oct. 4, defeating the Eagles 25-17, 30-28, 25-15 in Montgomery, Ala. Additionally, the win keeps the Rams on top of the current SSAC Volleyball standings with an 8-1 SSAC record as Mobile is set to take a week off from conference play.

The sweep for Mobile is the Rams' 14th straight-set win of the year, with the team now seeing victories in nine of the last 10 matches played. Friday's match started a streak of four consecutive road matches for Mobile from Oct. 4-26.

Rams Hold Down Eagles

Mobile opened Friday night's action with a 25-17 set one win as offense began the match with a strong first set performance. The Rams recorded 16 kills alone across set one, while recording a hitting percentage north of .400 and committing only three attack errors. In the second set, however, Mobile's offense took a dip with 10 errors and allowed Faulkner to lead for the majority of the set. Mobile did manage to make things interesting late, eventually scratching off a 30-28 comeback win to go up two sets on the Eagles.

In the third set, Mobile bounced back and controlled the set from start to finish. The Rams won the third 25-15 to end the match and pocket the 19th win of the season. In the final set, Mobile hit .229 with 15 kills and seven errors.

Twin sisters Aspen Adams and Layton Adams shared the team lead in kills with 10 each, with Dazsha Dean Middleton and Corrina Porch-Maxey notching nine a piece. As a team, the Rams recorded 50 kills overall off a .242 hitting line. Tatum Beech collected a team-high 25 assists, followed by fellow setter Layton Adams with 21.

Defensively, Mobile tallied 11 total blocks as a unit, led by Emily Osborne with six block assists. Meanwhile, Jaci Drinnon paced the team on the back line with 14 defensive digs, with Lexi Gillette following with 13 and Layton Adams managing 11. Mobile totaled 56 digs across the three sets played.

Non-Conference Action Ahead

Mobile is set to return to action next Wednesday, Oct. 9 on the road with a non-conference battle against Dillard University (La.) in New Orleans, La. Wednesday's match with Dillard marks the second time this season that the two programs have met, with Mobile winning the earlier match. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m. CT.

Mobile's all-time record against the Bleu Devils sits at 33-0-1.
