MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The University of Mobile Men's Basketball team picked up the 20th victory of the season under head coach Darnell Archey on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 10, defeating Brewton-Parker College 74-54 on the road. It's the first time since the 2007-08 season that Mobile has earned at least 20 wins during the regular season, with the Rams still scheduled for three more regular season games during the 2023-24 campaign.
Mobile's win on Saturday is the Rams' fifth consecutive win, improving the overall record to 20-5. Additionally, Mobile advances the SSAC record to 13-4. Saturday's game was the final road game of the regular season for Mobile, with the Rams set to end the year with three-straight home games in Pharr Gymnasium.
Win Number 20 Comes Behind 20-Point Win
Mobile's offensive attack proved strong throughout the entire game against Brewton-Parker, while the Barons struggled on the offensive end. In both halves, the Rams never shot below 46% as a team, scoring 38 points alone through the first half on a 50% shooting line. Mobile made 15 shots from the field through the first 20 minutes, six coming from the three-point line. Meanwhile, Brewton-Parker made just eight shots in the first half and trailed 38-25 at halftime.
In the second half, Mobile added 15 more successful shots from the floor, adding four made free throw attempts. Brewton-Parker continued to struggle to shoot the ball against the Mobile defense, making 12 shots off a 32% shooting percentage. The Barons scored just 29 points in the latter part of Saturday's game, while Mobile added 36 points. The Rams went on the win by 20 points, heading home to Mobile, Ala. with a 3-0 road trip dating back to Feb. 3.
Mobile ended Saturday shooting 48% as a team, making six of 11 free throw attempts. The Rams relied on 34 points in the paint, while scoring 13 points off both turnovers and second chance opportunities. Mobile dominated the rebound battle by grabbing 50 boards, 14 of which coming on the offensive side. The one number that did not look great in the box score was turnovers, with the Rams committing 18 total turnovers across the full 40 minutes.
Individually, Trent Moye led all players with 22 points in the win, making four threes and adding seven rebounds. Moye finished Saturday by shooting 9-for-17 from the floor. Ezra McKenna followed Moye with his 20th double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and grabbing 17 rebounds, and Treylan Smith became Mobile's next highest scorer with 12 points in 17 minutes of playing time. Smith added seven boards and recorded a pair of steals.
Ending the Regular Season at Home
Mobile's next home game is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 15, with the Rams hosting Life University (Ga.) in what is expected to be a tough contest. Mobile defeated Life back in January 89-83 as the two teams sit within two games of each other in the current conference standings. Next Thursday's game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
