MOBILE TENNIS CENTER | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's Tennis team came away with a thrilling 4-3 victory over the College of Coastal Georgia in the first round of the 2024 NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship Tournament on Tuesday, May 14, advancing to the second round set for Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. CT.
The Basics
The Rams open Tuesday's matchup with Coastal Georgia by dropping the doubles portion of the match as the 17th-seeded Mariners looked for an upset over host-school Mobile.
Mobile's second-seeded doubles pair of Sergio Ruiz Ramiro and Santiago Reina earned a 6-2 win in doubles action, but saw Coastal Georgia earns wins across the No. 1 and 3 seeds.
However, Mobile responded in singles play, winning four of the six singles matches against the Mariners to earn the overall match victory. The Rams evened the match 3-3 before seeing William Crowe clinch the victory from the sixth flight in the lineup with a 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-4 three-set win. Joining Crowe with wins in singles play was Joao Pedro Okano, Martin Jeanne, and Sergio Ruiz Ramiro.
