WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The University of Mobile Volleyball team ended the Vipers Sports Academy Classic in style on Saturday night, Aug. 17, picking up the team's second-straight sweep in non-conference action. Coming off a 3-0 sweep over Spartanburg Methodist College (S.C.) the night before, Mobile managed a 3-0 sweep over Taylor University (Ind.) just 24 hours later, ending the weekend-long tournament in south Florida with a 3-1 overall record.
Rams Head Home Following 3-1 Weekend
In Saturday's late night victory over the Trojans of Taylor University, Mobile managed a 25-13, 25-21, 25-14 victory, hitting .286 as a team. The Rams picked up 38 kills on 98 attack attempts, while holding Taylor to just 26 kills in the match. In the third set alone, Mobile's offense did not commit an attack error, finishing the night with just 10 errors total.
Corrina Porch-Maxey continued to lead Mobile in kills, recording 10 against Taylor. Porch-Maxey was followed by Aspen Adams with seven kills, while Adams added eight digs, two blocks, and a service ace. Dazsha Dean Middleton led the offense in hitting with a .600 attack percentage, collecting six kills on just 10 attempts.
Layton Adams and Tatum Beech continued to split the assists in Saturday's victory, with Layton Adams leading the Rams with 16 and Tatum Beech recording 15. Jaci Drinnon put together a 13-dig performance on the back line, giving her a team-high 71 digs across the four-match weekend.
Home Tourney Upcoming
With the first tournament of the season in the books, the Rams head home to host their own tournament next weekend in H. Austill Pharr Gymnasium. Mobile is scheduled for five matches from Aug. 22-24, kicking off the action-packed weekend with a matchup against Louisiana Christian on Thursday evening at 5:00 p.m. CT.
