Rams pick up 3-2 win at home to move up SSAC standings

THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - On a cool October evening in Mobile, Alabama, the University of Mobile Women's Soccer team played the Dalton State Roadrunners in a thrilling back and forth match that saw the Rams come out on top 3-2. Finding themselves down to the roadrunners in the first half, Mobile would equalize before half time before taking the lead early on in the second half. Following an equalizer from the away side, Mobile would get the winner in the final ten minutes to take all three points and move up in the SSAC standings with postseason drawing near.

Through the opening 25 minutes, both sides would force saves out of the goalkeepers with Sarah Polk making two saves early on to keep things level. However, it would be the Roadrunners who would find the opener as the played a corner kick short before the ball was flicked over the head of Polk, putting the Rams behind midway through the first half. With time running out in the first 45, freshman Charlotte Malamaire put on a brilliant solo display, moving past a defender on the outside of the box before curling the ball past the keeper using the underside of the crossbar.

Following the halftime break, both sides searched for the goal that would put them in front, but it would be the Rams who would pull ahead. in the 63rd minute, Andi Hughes played a beautiful flick pass through to Maya Tait who lifted the ball over the Roadrunner keeper to see mobile take their first lead of the evening. The two sides would battle back and forth for possession over the next 15 minutes, but Dalton State would find the equalizer in the 79th minute to level it all up at 2-2. Following a series of substitutions for the Rams, Mobile would get back to back corner kicks where finally, in the 85th minute, Carla Saborido played a perfect ball into the box connecting with the head of Natalie Burt to find the back of the net and give Mobile the game winning goal. Mobile would hold out for the final 5 minutes, denying Dalton State an equalizer, claiming all three points for the home side.

Sarah Polk made a total of 5 saves in the match, while Charlotte Malamaire scored her 5th goal of the season. For Natalie Burt, the game winner was her 7th goal of the campaign, while the Canadian born freshman, Maya Tait, picked up her 3rd goal of the year in her short 26 minute appearance.
